The physical science major meets the needs of the teaching profession, with a flexible curriculum that includes teaching-related experiential learning opportunities. This major not only services students wishing to enter the teaching profession, but also can accommodate students who want high-quality training in physics and mathematics, or who are considering a career in health care, the legal profession or other science areas.

A fine arts degree provides an intensive, professional exploration of fine art media. Students develop a portfolio and career plan through an emphasis in ceramics, drawing, painting, printmaking or sculpture.

Economics is a social science and as such an important component of the liberal arts curriculum. It provides a useful background for students interested in careers in public policy, business or finance.

Students who study economics investigate the allocation of scarce resources. The foundation of economics is based on theories of how people, institutions and governments make choices and interact. Some of the topics that a student of economics studies are: pricing, the effects of taxing and regulation by the government, inflation, income distribution and international trade.

Because Economics straddles the worlds of business and social science, the demand for economics majors is strong in both the public and private sector. Economics is also great preparation for graduate school in fields as diverse as business, law, and public policy.

We view an engineer as a well-rounded person with technical skills and a human-centered mindset. Our faculty and staff mentor our students for successful careers in mechanical engineering that align with personal interests by bringing state-of-the-art research and modern engineering challenges into the classroom. French and English are the only languages spoken on all five inhabited continents. With 300 million French speakers in the world, the ability to speak French is a career asset for our graduates. French is the official working language of the United Nations, the European Union, UNESCO, NATO, the International Olympic Committee and the International Red Cross.

The study of history provides students with important skills – including critical reading, writing and thinking – that will make them informed citizens ready to work for the common good. The study of history not only prepares students to participate in civic life, but is also a stepping stone to careers in many diverse fields.

Our major combines a biomedical science-focused curriculum, a local or international medical experience, and a self-designed plan of study to include a minor or other courses of interest that prepare our graduates for entry into professional schools.

As a sociology major you will build awareness for the different types of social inequality that exist, who is negatively impacted, where and how it emerges, and what perpetuates it. Courses will not only shed light on social inequality, but will teach you how to do something about it.

Students have the opportunity to create their own program of study. If you have a specific project in mind or want to study a combination of writing and literature, you can work closely with an adviser to plan a track toward your UD degree.
