Recent graduates are employed as scientists in academia, industry and government, or pursuing postgraduate education. In addition to our rigourous academic program, students can work side-by-side with faculty on research projects such as discovering novel inhibitors of bacterial efflux pumps as a way to combat multi-drug resistance in bacteria, studying biodegradation of polymer coatings, and discovering new photodynamic lung cancer treatments.

We view an engineer as a well-rounded person with technical skills and a human-centered mindset. Our faculty and staff mentor our students for successful careers in mechanical engineering that align with personal interests by bringing state-of-the-art research and modern engineering challenges into the classroom. Along with a high retention rate through graduation, we engage students through experiential learning, and we have an extremely high job and graduate school placement rate. The UD School of Education and Health Sciences offers 11 undergraduate degree programs and 11 undergraduate certificate, licensure & endorsement programs to help prepare students for careers in education, health, wellness, sport or physical activity. UD SEHS also offers 24 graduate degree programs and 22 graduate certificate, licensure & endorsement programs. Our research, particularly in the areas of nanomaterials, energy systems, and fuels and combustion — as led by the von Ohain Fuels and Combustion Center — is enhanced by our relationship with the Air Force Research Laboratories. 

You can choose from numerous research opportunities: aircraft fuels and combustion, alternative fuels for future use in homes, transportation, and industrial energy systems. Experiment with robotics and controls, nanomaterial characterization, kinematic design, or aerospace design.

As an electrical engineering graduate student, you’ll work with top scholars and industry leaders and develop your area of expertise. Your work is supported with faculty expertise and seven computer labs with industry-specific software along with ten specialized laboratories.

• Electromagnetics and signal processing
• Optical processing and nonlinear optics
• Signal and image processing
• Control theory and systems
• Digital systems

Computer information systems (CIS) overlaps many other fields, so we prepare our students to face a wide range of challenges. The CIS major has a built-in minor that allows you to choose an area of interest, such as entrepreneurship or financial mathematics, that will greatly enhance your marketability after graduation.
