The Bachelor of Music curriculum prepares students to become professional musicians or vocalists, to teach music at the K-12 levels, or for graduate or professional school. Students select a concentration in instrumental, keyboard, or vocal training.

The B.M. in music is offered for students seeking a university education that includes preparation for careers in music teaching or performance. The B.M. degree is available in the following emphases: music performance and music education.

The B.M. in music with emphasis in music performance prepares students to become professional musicians (performing as woodwind, brass, string, or percussion instrumentalists, pianists or vocalists) and/or for graduate or professional school. This emphasis can be completed with a concentration (option) in piano, instrumental, or vocal as principal instrument.

The Bachelor of Arts in Sport and Recreation Administration degree program prepares students for leadership, direct service, and even supervisory roles in sport franchises, sport tourism, community recreation agencies, or college recreation departments.

The B.A.S.R.A. degree program is designed to develop skills preparatory to leadership and supervisory roles in a variety of sport and leisure service careers, including municipal, outdoor, therapeutic, military, church, youth, commercial/tourism, and industrial agencies and organizations.

The Bachelor of Arts in Sport and Recreation Administration program is accredited through the Council on Accreditation of Parks, Recreation, Tourism and Related Professions.

The Master of Music is an advanced professional degree designed to develop a particular area in music to a high level of specialization. The university offers the M.M. with the following emphases:

Emphasis - Music Theory
The M.M. degree with an emphasis in music theory is an advanced professional degree designed to give the student a broad research background while also providing a 24-credit specialization. A thesis is required.

The M.S. in sport and recreation administration provides advanced education and vocational opportunities to develop leisure service delivery skills and evaluation or research competencies for students committed to careers in leisure, sport, recreation, health, tourism, and/or research.

The rapidly rising demand for accountants has made this profession one of the fastest growing in the nation. Students with diverse backgrounds, abilities and interests all have opportunities in accounting.

Accounting is known as the language of business and provides an academic foundation that is highly valuable for public accounting, managerial accounting, financial management and investing, as well as business fields in general.

The primary function of the accountancy program is to provide professional education required to prepare students for careers as professional accountants in financial institutions, government, industry, nonprofit organizations, and public practice. Emphasis is placed upon both theoretical principles and concepts and practical applications to fulfill the need for reliable financial information. Professional courses provide students with the accounting education required to commence and continue to develop in a wide range of professional accounting careers.

The M.A. in history is offered as either a thesis or nonthesis option. Students in the M.A. program may study a variety of topics and chronological sweeps of American and European history, as well as much of the histories of Africa, Latin America, and East Asia.

Sociology is the systematic study of human social life. The B.A. in sociology provides students with the basic tools of sociological analysis including social research methods (both quantitative and qualitative) and theory. The curriculum in sociology equips students to more effectively negotiate the diverse society in which we live by addressing social inequalities, culture, community development, social institutions, and social change.

Examine the dynamics of social interaction and investigate the origins of social problems.

Sociology majors at the University of Mississippi learn basic tools of sociological analysis including social research methods and theory. The M.A. in mathematics is designed (1) to prepare students for the teaching of mathematics, particularly in high schools and community colleges, (2) to prepare students for nonteaching professions or vocations, such as civil service, actuarial work, or statistical work, in which mathematics plays a principal part, or (3) for students who wish to supplement study in other fields with suitable courses in mathematics.

The M.S. in exercise science prepares students for careers in fitness and allied health and research. The degree also prepares students for advanced study at the doctoral (Ph.D.) level.

History majors at the University of Mississippi take a range of courses across American and European history as well as history of other regions. They take at least one advanced research course where they utilize primary resources to address questions of historical importance.
