With a civil engineering degree, you could be involved in the design, construction or operation of many critical facilities. This could be anything from highways to high-rise buildings, from bridges to hospitals and airports – just to name a few.

Our civil engineering program will give you the foundation for practice and advanced study in:

• Geotechnical Engineering – looking at the mechanics of minerals, rocks, soil and water to determine what’s required for man-made structures built on or around them.
• Structural Engineering – making sure structures are designed and built to be safe and resilient to environmental stresses.
• Transportation and Construction Management – using engineering skills to oversee transportation and other large projects, in terms of schedule, cost, safety, quality, function and scope.
• Environmental and Water Resources Engineering – creating solutions to environmental problems such as waste and pollution, and ensuring access to clean water for human use.

The Master of Criminal Justice (M.C.J.) promotes evidence-based policy and practice and prepares future leaders in the fields of criminal justice, emergency management, and homeland security by conducting relevant, innovative research and offering cutting-edge courses.

Emphasis - Homeland Security and Emergency Management
The M.C.J. with emphasis in emergency management and homeland security prepares a graduate for a variety of criminal justice and related positions.

The Bachelor of Science in Dietetics and Nutrition program at the University of Mississippi provides a solid foundation in food science and preparation as it relates to human health and well-being. The program in dietetics and nutrition provides an academic path for students to enter careers or advanced programs in dietetics and nutrition.

In general engineering, you will get:

• Degree choice – with the more specialized Bachelor of Science degree, you’ll take additional engineering science and engineering elective courses. With a Bachelor of Engineering, you get the core engineering science principles plus the flexibility to broaden your course selection outside of engineering.
• Tailored program – you can choose an emphasis in business, manufacturing, pre-law, pre-med, ROTC studies and secondary education – or one designed around your career interests.
• Opportunity to change to another engineering department – you can switch to a more specialized degree if you meet the academic requirements.

The master’s graduate program in the School of Journalism and New Media offers three tracks: academic, professional, and Integrated Marketing Communications.

M.A. students without academic or professional background in journalism may be required to pursue a course of study that combines undergraduate and graduate journalism courses.

Emphasis is placed upon both theoretical principles and concepts and practical applications to fulfill the need for reliable financial information. Professional courses provide students with the accounting education required to commence and continue to develop in a wide range of professional accounting careers.

Philosophy is the study of the fundamental ideas underlying every dimension of human life. A major in philosophy helps one to think clearly, communicate persuasively, engage in moral reasoning, and formulate a coherent approach to life. Typically, philosophy majors go on to graduate school, law school, medical school, theological studies, or careers in business.

Philosophy majors consider the questions at the core of human experience - the nature of reality, the extent of human knowledge, the basis of moral and ethical thought and behavior, the resolution of conflict, and the origin of belief. Students may also choose an optional emphasis in religious studies.
