University of Mississippi French majors study the language, linguistics, literature, history and culture of the French-speaking world. They gain the cultural awareness and intellectual strategies necessary to successfully navigate the interconnected and multicultural world in which we live.

The study of French provides students with the practical instruction in a second language required to function in a nonnative environment, as well as the cultural awareness and intellectual strategies necessary to successfully navigate a foreign landscape.

The law studies program is designed for the student who wishes to pursue a career as a paralegal or legal assistant.

The paralegal emphasis will provide students with the experiences, knowledge, and skills for careers as paralegals.

The M.S. in engineering science is offered in a number of emphasis areas: aeroacoustics, chemical engineering, civil engineering, computational hydroscience, computer engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, electromagnetics, environmental engineering, geology, geological engineering, hydrology, mechanical engineering, material science and engineering, and telecommunications.

An M.S. in engineering science with emphasis in electrical engineering prepares a student with advanced technical knowledge and communication skills for pursuing a career in industry, engineering research and development, public service, or for doctoral work.

The Master of Music is an advanced professional degree designed to develop a particular area in music to a high level of specialization. The university offers the M.M. with the following emphases:

With a geological engineering degree, you can find a job in energy, mining, environmental consulting, government research and regulation. And, you’ll likely find yourself spending part of your workday outdoors – in swamps, mountains, forests, desert plains and out at sea.

The B.A. in sociology provides students with the basic tools of sociological analysis including social research methods (both quantitative and qualitative) and theory. Computer science students learn how to define processes and encode them so that they can be carried out efficiently by computers. This involves such tasks as determining what result is needed (systems analysis), developing efficient and flexible software to encode the process (algorithm design, programming, and software engineering), and organizing the data needed and generated by the process (data structures and database management). They also learn how to use the technologies of computers, communication technologies, and the control programs work together to effectively achieve the desired results.
