The B.A. allows greater compatibility with other areas of study, while still providing specialized training in the applied concentrations of instrumental, keyboard, or voice.

The M.A. degree provides students with an intensive study of the different fields, theories, and research methods in contemporary political science. The degree prepares students for doctoral study in political science, and for careers in education, government, or policy analysis. Two options are offered: One, which requires a written thesis, is for students primarily interested in political science research; the other, which replaces the thesis with a written comprehensive examination, is for students who are more concerned with the practical application of their political science expertise.

The B.A. in psychology prepares students for careers in which a fuller understanding of human behavior is needed or to enter graduate programs in psychology and professional schools such as law and medicine. Students learn the scientific approach to the study of human and animal behavior, and can take courses in a variety of subfields, such as social, cognitive, personality, abnormal, developmental, and behavioral neuroscience. Geological engineers consider the engineering properties of natural soils and rock for building and protecting foundations, dams, levees and tunnels. They also work to reverse the environmental impacts of human activities in fields such as groundwater remediation and mine reclamation.

With a geological engineering degree, you can find a job in energy, mining, environmental consulting, government research and regulation. And, you’ll likely find yourself spending part of your workday outdoors – in swamps, mountains, forests, desert plains and out at sea.

University of Mississippi French majors study the language, linguistics, literature, history and culture of the French-speaking world. They gain the cultural awareness and intellectual strategies necessary to successfully navigate the interconnected and multicultural world in which we live.

The study of French provides students with the practical instruction in a second language required to function in a nonnative environment, as well as the cultural awareness and intellectual strategies necessary to successfully navigate a foreign landscape.

History majors at the University of Mississippi take a range of courses across American and European history as well as history of other regions. They take at least one advanced research course where they utilize primary resources to address questions of historical importance.

In general engineering, you will get:

• Degree choice – with the more specialized Bachelor of Science degree, you’ll take additional engineering science and engineering elective courses. With a Bachelor of Engineering, you get the core engineering science principles plus the flexibility to broaden your course selection outside of engineering.
• Tailored program – you can choose an emphasis in business, manufacturing, pre-law, pre-med, ROTC studies and secondary education – or one designed around your career interests.
• Opportunity to change to another engineering department – you can switch to a more specialized degree if you meet the academic requirements.

The B.A. in Southern studies involves the interdisciplinary study of the American South. The program brings together faculty members from the humanities and social sciences to explore the importance of region as a context of human experience. Through a variety of disciplines, including African American studies, anthropology, art, history, literature, music, politics, religion, and sociology, Southern studies seeks to investigate the challenges and contributions of the region, in order to situate the South in the fabric of American life. The undergraduate program teaches students both knowledge about the people, past and present, of the American South and a variety of techniques about studying those people.

Computer scientists work in almost every industry because computing is the glue that holds much of contemporary science, technology, commerce and entertainment together.

With a computer science degree, you can pursue a wide spectrum of roles – you could develop software, applications or websites. You could design, maintain or protect computer systems. Or you could focus on data – how to store, organize and derive value from it.

You’ll be able to take advantage of:

• Degree choice – with the more specialized Bachelor of Science degree, you’ll take additional math, science and computing courses. With a Bachelor of Arts, you get the core computer science principles and the flexibility to take courses compatible with a liberal arts degree.
• New or enhanced courses – you’ll keep up with innovations in cybersecurity, virtual reality, artificial intelligence, graphics, game development, web and mobile app development and more. And you have the option to pursue a cyber security or data science emphasis.
• Community and competition – take part in our programming competitions, hackathons, esports activities and join our student chapter of the Association of Computing Machinery.

The Bachelor of Arts in Sport and Recreation Administration degree program prepares students for leadership, direct service, and even supervisory roles in sport franchises, sport tourism, community recreation agencies, or college recreation departments.

The B.A.S.R.A. degree program is designed to develop skills preparatory to leadership and supervisory roles in a variety of sport and leisure service careers, including municipal, outdoor, therapeutic, military, church, youth, commercial/tourism, and industrial agencies and organizations.

The Bachelor of Arts in Sport and Recreation Administration program is accredited through the Council on Accreditation of Parks, Recreation, Tourism and Related Professions.
