The Women’s and Gender Studies Program at the University of South Carolina promotes an understanding of the experiences of women and other underrepresented groups through a complete program of teaching, research, and service to the University, the local community, the state, the nation and the global community. As a real estate major, you will focus on topics such as market analysis, real estate finance, property appraisal, investment analysis and portfolio management. Chemical engineers are leading new developments in medicine, advanced materials, energy, consumer products, manufacturing and environmental solutions. From developing more efficient fuel cells to creating innovations that advance space exploration, our chemical engineering students and faculty members are at the forefront of research.

As a chemical engineering major, you will learn to translate knowledge from chemistry, biology and other sciences into the products that provide fuel, power, medicine and materials that are vital to our society and the world. Through challenging coursework and educational experiences, you will develop engineering knowledge as well as additional professional and personal skills needed to succeed in your career.

You will be afforded the opportunity to work with a professor in research on some of today's most notable engineering challenges. You will also be encouraged to participate in cooperative education, industrial internships and research and educational opportunities nationally and internationally.

The Film and Media Studies Program is devoted to the critical study of media culture. In a world where we interact daily with one screen after another—on our cell phones, televisions, mobile devices as well as at the multiplex—our students gain the knowledge and skills for understanding and engaging the work of screen media in society.

Courses in the Film and Media Studies major cultivate essential media literacy skills, investigate media history from an international perspective, and engage the central methods and concepts of the discipline.

By working closely with program faculty, you have the opportunity to undertake advanced research on almost any aspect of media culture—from early Hollywood to contemporary Asian cinema and European television, from home movies and experimental films to selfies and social networks, from problems of industrial organization to questions of genre development and social habit.

As a geography major, you will take courses in computer cartography, GIS and air photo interpretation/remote sensing. You will also have ample opportunities to study the Earth’s physical features and processes and how this physical environment is modified by human activities. Students may choose to take courses that include the real-world collection, analysis, interpretation and presentation of geographic data to prepare you for careers in geography.

Our dance program has a 30-year history of excellence. The program attracts a cosmopolitan enrollment of students from across the country and abroad and is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Dance.

The Bachelor of Arts in Dance offers two concentrations (performance and choreography or dance education), and all students are required to actively participate in departmental productions.

The program is known for offering rigorous technical training while also providing opportunities for broad-based study in dance and beyond. Experience a world-class repertory, including historical dance works by George Balanchine, Martha Graham, Twyla Tharp, David Parsons, Lila York and Lynne Taylor Corbett, as well as original works by our eminent faculty. You will be exposed to dance techniques that include classical ballet, contemporary dance, jazz, musical theater and world dance.
