The Operations and Supply Chain program at the Darla Moore School of Business pairs a robust classroom environment and real-world, experiential learning to provide students with the skills to systematically analyze data and improve business processes.

What makes our program stand out from the rest is the opportunity for our students to get the actual Lean Six Sigma green-belt certification from the industry through a rigorous coverage of Lean Six Sigma approach to supply chain and operations management, a formal written green-belt exam from Sonoco (a $4 billion global manufacturing company based in Hartsville, S.C.) and completion of a major certified project in one of our center partner firms to meet the project requirement for green-belt certification. There is no other program that provides such a rich opportunity in Lean Six Sigma certification from industry to its undergraduate students in business.

The Women’s and Gender Studies Program at the University of South Carolina promotes an understanding of the experiences of women and other underrepresented groups through a complete program of teaching, research, and service to the University, the local community, the state, the nation and the global community. Through its research mission, the program reconceptualizes knowledge, creates new knowledge, and reinterprets existing knowledge through the lens of gender and the prism of diversity. Its teaching mission is to share this knowledge with students so that they learn to think critically, to communicate effectively, to solve problems, and to interpret human experience. The Film and Media Studies program is devoted to the critical study of moving images. The program offers unique opportunities that include production collaboration with Media Arts, and engagement with the remarkable film and television archival content of Moving Image Research Collections, which has grown to an estimated 6,000 hours of material.

In this program, you'll learn how to:

• Analyze persuasively moving image media (including their sounds)
• Research histories of  about the international production, distribution and reception
• Map media industries globally and describe their functions
• Defend your own explanation of media’s power in everyday life.

Social work is a helping profession. The main goal of social work is to improve a society's overall well-being, especially for the most vulnerable populations. Our students learn to work with individuals, couples, families, groups, neighborhoods, communities and organizations to empower them to meet their needs.

As a social work major, you can expect to develop skills in community organizing, diversity, social justice, networking, interviewing, multitasking, case management and grant-writing. You will also be able to gain hands-on experience in the field through service-learning that is integrated into academic coursework. You may also choose to pursue the Child Welfare Certificate and become certified in child welfare and receive a fellowship from the Department of Social Services.

Our chemical engineering curriculum provides a strong foundation in the core areas of chemical engineering and prepares you for employment in industry or for graduate school. It integrates the study of engineering, chemistry, physics, computer modelling, health and safety. Optional concentrations allow you to specialize in an area of interest.

The studio art program offers two Bachelor degree options. As a studio art major, you will benefit from outstanding facilities and hands-on experience through internship and research opportunities.

    The B.A. in Studio Art is a general degree that allows students to explore many different mediums and, at 39 credit hours, is well suited for students who are interested in double majoring.

All B.F.A. undergraduate students will:

• Define and explain development of art, within their own and other cultures, from prehistory to the present.
• Critically analyze aspects of the design and art-making process and evaluate theories, philosophies and research in the practice of the studio arts.
• Through their artwork, demonstrate their competency of aesthetic literacy.
• Synthesize their learning from the curriculum into a final culminating experience within their chosen concentration.
• Have a solo exhibition of their creative research to be examined by the student’s major faculty.

A department in the College of Arts and Sciences, the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry focuses on training professional chemists and providing a base degree for advanced study in medicine, pharmacy and other professional schools. The department places an emphasis on undergraduate research and has outstanding faculty members.

As a geography major, you will take courses in computer cartography, GIS and air photo interpretation/remote sensing. You will also have ample opportunities to study the Earth’s physical features and processes and how this physical environment is modified by human activities. Students may choose to take courses that include the real-world collection, analysis, interpretation and presentation of geographic data to prepare you for careers in geography.
