The College of Engineering and Computing offers the South Carolina's only aerospace engineering program, including a Master of Engineering (M.E.) and Masters of Science (M.S.) in Aerospace Engineering.

Graduate study in aerospace engineering affords the opportunity to enhance critical thinking and mathematical prowess, skills that are transferable to career advancement in research, design and application work environments. Plus, those with graduate degrees in aerospace engineering generally have a higher income than those with just an undergraduate engineering degree.

Aerospace engineering graduate degrees include the Master of Engineering (M.E.), which is perceived to be more practically oriented, and the Master of Science (M.S.), which is considered more scholarly or fundamental and includes a thesis.

Programs of study for both the M.S. and M.E. in Aerospace Engineering include coursework in five core areas:

• Aeroelasticity
• Aerodynamics and Flight Mechanics
• Aerospace Structures
• Composite Materials
• Finite Element Analysis

Additional electives allow students to concentrate their studies in the mechanics, materials, and flight aspects of aerospace engineering.

• Students will demonstrate an ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics.
• Students will demonstrate an ability to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors.
• Students will demonstrate an ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences.
• Students will demonstrate an ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts.
• Students will demonstrate an ability to function effectively on a team whose members together provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive environment, establish goals, plan tasks, and meet objectives.
• Students will demonstrate an ability to develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions.
• Students will demonstrate an ability to acquire and apply new knowledge as needed, using appropriate learning strategies.

Our criminal justice program promotes state-of-the-art research and instruction in subject areas that are crucial to the effective and orderly working of modern society.

You will learn theories of and responses to social deviance, law and the legal system, administration theory and evaluation, law enforcement, juvenile justice systems and procedures, and crime prevention models. You will also be able to attend numerous conferences and lectures to broaden your professional perspective.

As a criminal justice major, you will also have the opportunity to participate in a hands-on internship experience that will add to your educational experience. You can gain additional experience by participating in the Campus Patrol Office program, which offers students who qualify an opportunity to gain hands-on experience as an employee of the University of South Carolina Division of Law Enforcement and Safety. Your liberal studies degree will prepare you for success in these critical areas through a multidisciplinary program you will design with an experienced advisor.

Customize your bachelor’s degree to meet your educational, career, or personal goals by selecting two academic disciplines best suited for you, or from our list of popular emphases. Your degree may combine any two disciplines and one cognate within each emphasis OR you may choose your own emphasis. Below are popular emphases within our program.    

Economics majors in the College of Arts and Sciences may earn the B.A. by completing the 24-hour major requirement along with the college core, distribution requirements and cultural-awareness and writing-emphasis requirements as described in the basic degree requirements in liberal arts. Bachelor of Arts degrees require an additional nine hours in the fine arts or humanities above Carolina Core requirements.

In addition to courses within your major, students in the College of Arts and Sciences must fulfill a cognate or minor. The cognate is intended to support the course work in the major, and it must consist of 12 hours of courses at the advanced level, outside of, but related to, the major. In place of the cognate, B.A. students can choose a minor consisting of at least 18 credit hours of prescribed courses.

Finance involves the study of business finance, investments and financial institutions. Students can specialize in corporate finance, investments or financial services.

The Finance Department in the Darla Moore School of Business is composed of outstanding faculty members and researchers whose interests include areas such as bank management, corporate restructuring, investment management, risk management, employee benefits and real estate finance. You will benefit from cutting-edge business knowledge and develop a strong foundation in liberal arts and sciences. Through field trips to leading industries, service-learning opportunities and internships, you will be able to gain hands-on experience in the field.

Do you see yourself working in media using a variety of skills to create content or to deliver information through different mediums? Through our undergraduate curriculum, you will gain a broad understanding of media and develop skills to be a well-rounded communicator.

You'll gain broad insight into the communications industry and learn to recognize and analyze the media’s role in our society. You'll graduate with a deep intellectual understanding of the elements at work in the media today, and you'll be well rounded and media literate.

The art history program offers courses in ancient, medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, 18th-century, modern, American and Asian art, as well as architecture and film and photo history. General survey and special topics courses are offered every semester. Our faculty consists of dedicated teachers who are also nationally and internationally recognized scholars.

Through classroom instruction and additional research and internship opportunities students develop skills in visual analysis, historical understanding, critical thinking, research and writing, and intellectual and practical problem solving.

It takes a lot of expertise to analyze, plan, design and build our modern world. With a master’s degree in civil engineering, you’ll be prepared to work with a range of clients and collaborators, from government agencies to private firms.
