Economics offers a wide variety of career opportunities. Professional economists are involved in economic forecasting, market research, cost-effectiveness studies, investment analysis, policy analysis, impact studies, program evaluations and solving budget problems.

The challenge of 21st-century communications is to combine the information-gathering function-research and data bases-with the disciplines of disseminating information-journalism, advertising, public relations, visual communications, and mass communications.
 
The college’s School of Journalism and Mass Communications is professionally oriented and grounded strongly in the liberal arts. It offers instruction at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Course work is offered in electronic and print journalism, advertising, public relations, visual communications, and mass communications to train students in both the processes and effects of mass communication.

• Demonstrate the ability to conduct research, gather information, write clearly and correctly and present relevant news or persuasive information at a professional level.
• Think critically, creatively and independently; evaluate their own work and the work of others for accuracy, fairness, clarity, style and correctness.
• Understand the history of journalism and mass communications, the diversity of groups in a global society in relationship to communications and the role of journalism and mass communications in society.
• Understand the ethical concepts, legal implications, considerations and practices that guide the mass media professions.
• Demonstrate the ability to apply tools and technologies appropriate for the production, editing and presentation of visual, aural, textual or other media content.
• Apply basic numerical and statistical concepts and methods appropriate for the communications professions.

Aerospace engineering graduate degrees include the Master of Engineering (M.E.), which is perceived to be more practically oriented, and the Master of Science (M.S.), which is considered more scholarly or fundamental and includes a thesis.

Programs of study for both the M.S. and M.E. in Aerospace Engineering include coursework in five core areas:

• Aeroelasticity
• Aerodynamics and Flight Mechanics
• Aerospace Structures
• Composite Materials
• Finite Element Analysis

Additional electives allow students to concentrate their studies in the mechanics, materials, and flight aspects of aerospace engineering.

As an international business major, you will develop leading-edge knowledge concerning the practice of global business.  

The department emphasizes the understanding of cross-border relationships — both within the same organization and across multiple organizations — comprising the modern multinational enterprise, as well as the institutional, financial, sociocultural and sociopolitical contexts surrounding the enterprise. International business majors have the opportunity to concentrate on business in Chinese enterprise, the Middle East and North Africa, Latin America or Central Europe.

You will also gain global opportunities, cultural awareness and language appreciation. With a degree in public health, you can join the effort to protect the environment, prevent the spread of disease, enhance health and well-being at home and abroad, and affect change in policy and law that ensures the rights of all citizens to a healthy world.

As a public health major, you will develop the specialized knowledge and skills needed to address current and emerging public health issues. You will learn to demonstrate proficient reasoning and critical-thinking skills, including the ability to analyze, synthesize and evaluate information to make sound decisions and solve problems as they apply to public health.

As a student in the only school of public health in the state of South Carolina, you will discover quality learning experiences both in and out of the classroom. You will have the opportunity to participate in undergraduate research led by well-trained, nationally known faculty and staff experts. In fact, the Arnold School of Public Health leads the university in extramural funding per tenure-track faculty members and is a major contributor to the university's recognition by the Carnegie Foundation as an institution of both "high community service activity" and "high research activity.

The management department offers a B.S. in management with a concentration in entrepreneurship as well as a broad range of courses in areas ranging from strategic management to business communications. Students are exposed to a unique blend of classroom and applied experiential learning opportunities to prepare them for work in the modern economy. We also offer a wide range of both required and elective courses in areas such as entrepreneurship, leadership, consulting and organizational development, human resources, talent analytics and strategic management.

Weekly composition seminars include analysis and discussion between students and guest composers, performers and conductors, open rehearsals and visits by artists from other disciplines. Students profit from frequent visits by noted guest composers.

You also benefit from our rich musical resources, including two advanced computer music studios and our extensive music library collection. You are encouraged to take advantage of the diverse resources throughout the university and to collaborate with artists in other fields.

At the end of each term, student composers present their work at the New Voices concert, open to the public. This student-produced concert series is designed to stimulate compositional activity and educate composers in practical matters of concert production, publicity and artistic collaboration.

• Students will understand fundamental financial concepts related to the time value of money and risk-expected return tradeoffs.  
• Students will have basic knowledge of the institutional context in which financial decisions and transactions take place.  
• Students will be able to conduct a capital budgeting analysis, including calculating expected cash flows, cost of capital, and net present value.
• Students will be able to assess the risk-expected return tradeoffs when constructing a portfolio and apply metrics to assess portfolio performance.  
• Students will be able to evaluate a company’s prospects and risks.  
• Students will be able to infer the impact of business decisions on firm performance.

Our chemical engineering curriculum provides a strong foundation in the core areas of chemical engineering and prepares you for employment in industry or for graduate school. It integrates the study of engineering, chemistry, physics, computer modelling, health and safety. Optional concentrations allow you to specialize in an area of interest.
