The M.S. degree is an academic research degree, which may be tailored to individual interests and job market needs. Psychology is the science of mind and behavior. By participating in one of the most popular majors at the university, you can explore the theoretical and practical aspects of psychology.

As a psychology major, you will benefit from challenging courses led by outstanding faculty members. You may also work with a faculty mentor and explore a variety of research opportunities in the department. Research is generally divided into the areas of cognitive and neural sciences, clinical-community psychology, school psychology and quantitative psychology. You can work with children, adolescents, adults or animals studying phenomena such as attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder, autism spectrum disorder, behavioral interventions, decision-making, drugs of abuse, fetal alcohol syndrome, neurodegenerative diseases, cultural aspects of health, physical activity and other aspects of mental health. The Arnold School offers two undergraduate degree programs in public health. While both programs share similar core requirements, the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree places more emphasis on social and behavioral sciences for entry into social science-based graduate programs such as law school.

With programs and concentrations at all academic levels, the School of Accounting at the Darla Moore School of Business offers something for everyone. The Moore School offers an undergraduate major in accounting, master's degree programs in business measurement and assurance and taxation, and a concentration within the Ph.D. program in business administration.

Majors in this field must satisfactorily complete a minimum of 100 semester hours of academic work plus an intensive clinical training program where they receive specific training in one or more areas of emphasis within cardiovascular diagnostics: invasive, noninvasive, and vascular specialties. The first year will focus on the general education requirements of the Carolina Core and the College which include courses in English, mathematics, foreign language, behavioral sciences, history and freshmen level chemistry and biology. The major courses are completed over the next two years and include courses in cell biology, genetics, anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, and organic chemistry. Students are expected to complete eight hours in entry-level physics, plus four hours in a major level biology or chemistry course plus one or two electives to bring their total credits to 100 hours. The intensive clinical training program replaces the cognate requirement of the College.

The Master of Arts in Criminology and Criminal Justice program is a professional degree designed to provide criminal justice professionals with coursework in criminal justice system operation, criminology, research methods, and statistics. The degree program provides students with advanced instruction that prepares them to use evidence-based practices in the criminal justice system. Beyond career advancement for practitioners, the masters degree also provides rigorous social science training that prepares students for continued doctoral study.

Our Chemical Engineering graduate program is ranked in the top 30 nationally by the National Research Council and ranked 14th nationally in federally funded chemical research and development by the National Science Foundation.

Incentives for our Ph.D. candidates are the wide selection of research topics, full tuition waiver and high 12-month stipends. Full-time Ph.D. student stipends currently are in excess of $28,000 per year with tuition and partial health insurance support paid by the university. NSF Fellows and other students with similar fellowships can receive stipends totaling over $42,000 per year.
