As a geophysics major, you will benefit from a combination of quality classroom education, laboratory experience and field-based activities. You will focus on the physics of the earth and its atmosphere, including seismology, oceanography and volcanology.

You will also have the unique opportunity to complete a field-based course to get valuable hands-on experience with practical geophysical techniques for exploring the shallow subsurface. Full-time Ph.D. student stipends currently are in excess of $28,000 per year with tuition and partial health insurance support paid by the university. NSF Fellows and other students with similar fellowships can receive stipends totaling over $42,000 per year.

As a global studies major, you will focus on themes relating to globalization while learning to appreciate the world’s diversity. To achieve this end, this major requires students to focus on a particular world region and to attain proficiency in a modern foreign language.

Students in the Global Studies Program will focus on one of four themes: global health, global conflict and security, global sustainability and development, and global cultures. These themes, along with the major components around which the degree program is structured, will prepare students for careers where an understanding of urgent global issues is required, and where an ability to work with people from a variety of cultures is indispensable.

Economics offers a wide variety of career opportunities. Professional economists are involved in economic forecasting, market research, cost-effectiveness studies, investment analysis, policy analysis, impact studies, program evaluations and solving budget problems.

As a visual communications major, you will use the latest technology in a series of courses that emphasize multimedia production and writing. The Master of Science in Sport and Entertainment Management (MSEM) is a 36-credit hour degree program designed to train students for management and leadership careers in sport, entertainment and venue industries.

Civil engineers analyze, plan, design, and build structures such as buildings, bridges, dams, tunnels and roads. They create infrastructure systems for personal and mass transportation. Their work contributes to the management of water resources and natural hazard protection. They provide for environmental control and remediation of both the natural and constructed environment. Civil engineers also manage urban planning and public works projects, perform air quality monitoring and plan and design waste collection and handling systems.
