Students graduating from the Advertising, B.A.J.M.C. program will be able to …

• Demonstrate the ability to think critically, creatively and independently  evaluate their own work and the work of others for accuracy, fairness, clarity, style and correctness.  
• Demonstrate an understanding the history of journalism and mass communications, the diversity of groups in a global society in relationship to communications and the role of journalism and mass communications in society.
• Demonstrate an understanding of the ethical concepts, legal implications, considerations and practices that guide the mass media professions.  
• Demonstrate the ability to apply tools and technologies appropriate for the production, editing and presentation of visual, aural, textual or other media content.  
• Apply basic numerical and statistical concepts and methods appropriate for the communications professions. 

The College of Engineering and Computing offers the South Carolina's only aerospace engineering program, including a Master of Engineering (M.E.) and Masters of Science (M.S.) in Aerospace Engineering.

Graduate study in aerospace engineering affords the opportunity to enhance critical thinking and mathematical prowess, skills that are transferable to career advancement in research, design and application work environments. Plus, those with graduate degrees in aerospace engineering generally have a higher income than those with just an undergraduate engineering degree.

Aerospace engineering graduate degrees include the Master of Engineering (M.E.), which is perceived to be more practically oriented, and the Master of Science (M.S.), which is considered more scholarly or fundamental and includes a thesis.

Programs of study for both the M.S. and M.E. in Aerospace Engineering include coursework in five core areas:

• Aeroelasticity
• Aerodynamics and Flight Mechanics
• Aerospace Structures
• Composite Materials
• Finite Element Analysis

Additional electives allow students to concentrate their studies in the mechanics, materials, and flight aspects of aerospace engineering.

The Master of Arts in Criminology and Criminal Justice program is a professional degree designed to provide criminal justice professionals with coursework in criminal justice system operation, criminology, research methods, and statistics. The degree program provides students with advanced instruction that prepares them to use evidence-based practices in the criminal justice system. Beyond career advancement for practitioners, the masters degree also provides rigorous social science training that prepares students for continued doctoral study.

The environmental sciences major was launched in fall 2009 as part of the environment and sustainability program. It is designed to give students a strong scientific background while allowing them the flexibility to choose courses that address their specific interests.

Whether you're interested in filmmaking, game design, animation, internet art, manga, mobile media or worlds beyond, a degree in media arts at South Carolina will prepare you to be a creator in tomorrow's media landscape. Our students are agile, independent artists who are driving the next wave in media culture. Our facilities and equipment are professional-level, and our curriculum is both practical and intellectually challenging. Our faculty members have screened their work on every continent (yes, even Antarctica), and our graduates are making names for themselves all over the world.  

Psychology is the science of mind and behavior. By participating in one of the most popular majors at the university, you can explore the theoretical and practical aspects of psychology.

As a psychology major, you will benefit from challenging courses led by outstanding faculty members. You may also work with a faculty mentor and explore a variety of research opportunities in the department. Research is generally divided into the areas of cognitive and neural sciences, clinical-community psychology, school psychology and quantitative psychology. You can work with children, adolescents, adults or animals studying phenomena such as attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder, autism spectrum disorder, behavioral interventions, decision-making, drugs of abuse, fetal alcohol syndrome, neurodegenerative diseases, cultural aspects of health, physical activity and other aspects of mental health. In addition, we have opportunities for hands-on clinical experience through internships and community practica.

In the real estate program through the nationally ranked Darla Moore School of Business, you can expect to learn the concepts, principles and methodologies used in real estate analysis and decision-making.

As a real estate major, you will focus on topics such as market analysis, real estate finance, property appraisal, investment analysis and portfolio management. You will learn about appraisal, development and purchasing of houses and other properties. You will benefit from continuously updated technology, award-winning faculty members, a team environment, field trips to leading industries and service-learning opportunities. Our distinguished faculty excels in the field of real estate and will encourage you to expand your educational experiences through internships and study abroad.

The Women’s and Gender Studies Program at the University of South Carolina promotes an understanding of the experiences of women and other underrepresented groups through a complete program of teaching, research, and service to the University, the local community, the state, the nation and the global community. As a music major with a concentration in music performance, you can choose from nine performance areas: brass, conducting, guitar, jazz, keyboard, percussion, strings, voice and woodwinds.

Every performance area is designed to maximize your potential, enhancing the technical skills and knowledge you need to succeed as a professional musician. While some instruction happens in the classroom, other skills are developed by performing in symphonies, operas, quartets, bands and ensembles.
