Finance involves the study of business finance, investments and financial institutions. Students can specialize in corporate finance, investments or financial services.

The Finance Department in the Darla Moore School of Business is composed of outstanding faculty members and researchers whose interests include areas such as bank management, corporate restructuring, investment management, risk management, employee benefits and real estate finance. You will benefit from cutting-edge business knowledge and develop a strong foundation in liberal arts and sciences. Through field trips to leading industries, service-learning opportunities and internships, you will be able to gain hands-on experience in the field.

Students have the opportunity to explore interests in related fields such as musicology, composition and computer music and to work closely with faculty mentors on undergraduate research projects.

We also provide students with a wide variety of innovative courses in composition, conducting, education, history and performance, designed to serve the needs of our program.

In an age of rapid changes in new knowledge and technologies, public health professionals require a broad education that emphasizes problem-solving skills and an understanding of ethical behavior. Students who are interested in the Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree program will receive a broad-based natural science curriculum, preparing those students for further study and natural and environmental public health sciences, medicine and other clinical professions.

The exercise science program prepares students for entry into a wide range of health-related, post-baccalaureate graduate and professional programs. The program features three areas of emphasis: health fitness, motor development and scientific foundations.  

Exercise science majors will have unique hands-on opportunities, including involvement in clinical and community programs that provide exercise-related services to children, teens, young adults and adults.

Through your courses, you will develop the knowledge needed to describe the relationship among physical activity, functional capacity, health and disease across the lifespan. You will also be able to demonstrate laboratory proficiency through written and practical evaluations. You will also receive your first-aid certificate through core requirements.

A key factor separating successful firms from less-profitable competitors is how each manages its human resources. Human resources plays a central role in all of the major challenges facing businesses today.

The management department offers an undergraduate concentration in human resources as well as a broad range of courses in areas ranging from strategic management to business communications. Students are exposed to a unique blend of classroom and applied experiential learning opportunities to prepare them for work in the modern economy. We also offer a wide range of both required and elective courses in areas such as entrepreneurship, leadership, consulting and organizational development, human resources, talent analytics and strategic management.

The Women’s and Gender Studies Program at the University of South Carolina promotes an understanding of the experiences of women and other underrepresented groups through a complete program of teaching, research, and service to the University, the local community, the state, the nation and the global community. Through its research mission, the program reconceptualizes knowledge, creates new knowledge, and reinterprets existing knowledge through the lens of gender and the prism of diversity. Its teaching mission is to share this knowledge with students so that they learn to think critically, to communicate effectively, to solve problems, and to interpret human experience. Emerging from an activist tradition, the program serves University, local, state, national and global communities by acting as a resource and guide for issues related to women and gender. Our research, teaching, and service missions interweave as we create, share, and apply the knowledge, skills, and values that promote the full participation of women and other underrepresented groups in society.

Tourism management majors combine studies in the liberal arts with studies in statistics, accounting, marketing, economics, human resources, service management, finance and information technology, as well as club, hotel and tourism management.

As a tourism management major, you will be involved in field studies, group projects, computer simulations and event and festival planning. The major also offers one of only two Club Management Association of America-certified programs, or you can choose to concentrate in meeting and events. Students wishing to pursue the concentration in club management are required to complete 15 credit hours including club management, club cuisine and service, and advanced club management and a hospitality and tourism internship.

A minimum of two required internships can take tourism management majors to locales from coast to coast and all places in between, with an emphasis on honing your management skills. In addition to internships, you can take advantage of numerous clubs, volunteer opportunities and tourism-related study abroad experiences.

A graduate degree in electrical engineering may improve your career by equipping you to work on advanced projects or enabling you to transition to a new career in research or teaching. Our master's degrees in electrical engineering prepare students for specialized and supervisory positions in a variety of work environments, and our doctoral degree prepares students for academia and high-level research and development jobs. All of our graduate programs cultivate the next generation of leaders in academia and industry.

Students at the University of South Carolina are living in an increasingly globalized context in which economic, social, environmental, and cultural transformations in one part of the world can affect all others.  The State of South Carolina leads the nation in per capita foreign direct investment.  The ability to comprehend and communicate in diverse languages not only prepares our students to understand the history and traditions of our own culture, it also equips them to be active and engaged representatives of the state in the global economy and world affairs. The ability to communicate in a foreign language has been shown to correlate directly with career success by a variety of empirical studies. The major in languages, with its multiple and flexible tracks, is vital for the preparation of the next generation of South Carolina citizens and leaders.

The environmental sciences major was launched in fall 2009 as part of the environment and sustainability program. It is designed to give students a strong scientific background while allowing them the flexibility to choose courses that address their specific interests.
