The Department of Biological Sciences' program of studies is flexible enough to enable you to pursue careers in molecular and cellular biology, botany, microbiology, physiology or zoology as graduate students. Some students pursue jobs in biotechnology, education, marketing and sales, among other fields. Programs in the department also prepare students for professional fields such as dentistry, medicine, pharmacy, medical technology, nursing or physical therapy.

Computer science majors are part of a constantly evolving field that has virtually unlimited growth. From programming technology for major companies to creating video games that are played by millions, computer scientists build and maintain complex technological systems used throughout society.

Pacific’s computer science program offers three concentrations, which define a focused set of upper-division elective courses:

• Graphics and simulation
• Networking and computer security
• Software development.

All three concentrations are built upon a foundation of math, science and engineering that prepares students to be successful and adaptable as new technologies emerge.

From the history of food to a close examination of modern Asian societies, the history department offers a wide variety of classes that cover many diverse themes. Some focus on specific time periods, while others take a regional approach. Just as diverse is the array of specialties our faculty members draw from to illuminate historical topics.

We live in an "information now" society, and thousands of careers are open to graduates who possess the skills that are emphasized in our department. Our mission is to prepare you to be a communication leader in your community and career field.

The world of bioengineering, also known as biomedical engineering, has expanded immensely and continues to grow at a rapid pace, creating new opportunities for engineers who have knowledge of biological sciences, chemistry and physical systems.

Pacific is one of the first universities in the country to offer a Bachelor of Science in Bioengineering degree. Students in the program explore biomechanical, bioelectrical, biotransport and biomaterial topics. Within the bioengineering program there is a specialized pathway that supports pre-health and pre-medical students as they complete the requirements for admission to professional programs.

As a bioengineer, you can impact the quality of life of patients. Career options are wide-ranging and include medical research, design of medical instruments, biorobotics and even intellectual property law.

Students will select a career path that focuses on a study plan to meet their specific interests and career goals. There are three suggested "career paths." These include the bioelectrical, biomechanical and biomedical career paths.

This combination both enlivens the understanding of musical works and broadens our values regarding what kinds of music we should listen to, compose, support or perform. You may find a talent in this field if you like to use musical knowledge to awaken an appreciation of music in others, if you enjoy finding out the background or context of a work, or if you are skilled in investigating and communicating. Whether pursuing further study in graduate school or directly entering the world of music, you will feel well prepared for a musical career of your choice. The department offers coursework taken by all conservatory majors and also courses aimed at or available to other university majors.

Whether you're interested in social work, criminal justice, public policy, youth mentoring, or community development, we have a place and a pathway for you.

At Pacific, you will have the opportunity to learn through experience by interning or working with professional sociologists. The chemistry program offers a variety of exciting and future-oriented research topics, from organic synthesis, biochemistry, theoretical chemistry to physical chemistry and spectroscopy. When you earn a chemistry degree at Pacific, you can expect training in practical laboratory skills, which give you a competitive edge as you enter the workplace or pursue graduate degrees.
