The goal of the health, exercise and sport sciences program is to examine how movement-based physical activities, exercise and sport contribute to the quality of human life. We do this from a wide range of perspectives including biology, chemistry, psychology, sociology, business, education and philosophy to ensure that you are able to conceptualize and analyze health and human movement in a holistic manner.

The Department of English is an active and thriving community, where students meet respected professionals who are using their own English degrees in innovative and exciting ways, and gain hands-on publishing experience by working on Pacific's nationally-recognized, award-winning literary magazine, Calliope. The new Master of Science in Computer Science degree program is built on a 96-year foundation of engineering and computer science at University of the Pacific. The one to two-year program, taught at the iconic ivy-covered campus in Stockton, California, teaches students advanced techniques and best practices of professional research and establishes the intellectual foundations for achieving excellence in the field of computer science. Graduates of the degree program will be prepared to create new technologies and enhance existing systems with a curriculum that dives into machine learning, data science, virtual reality, and more. Whether you are a working adult, a residentially-based undergraduate student, a transfer student, or looking to make a career change into Computer Science, we offer a variety of flexible plans of study to meet many needs.

The Bachelor of Science in Accounting is a four-year degree that includes study of all functional areas of accounting including financial, managerial, cost, federal income tax accounting, accounting information systems, and auditing. Graduates of the program are fully prepared to enter accounting careers in the corporate, governmental, and not-for-profit areas. The program consists of 128 hours of coursework, and positions those graduates who desire licensure as Certified Public Accountants to continue their studies.

In addition to the general education courses required by the University, the Bachelor of Science in Accounting curriculum requires a set of preprofessional skills courses in the areas of communication, mathematics and economics. Many of these courses also satisfy certain general education requirements. Students also progress through a series of courses in core business areas such as accounting, management, marketing and finance. In their junior year, students begin their intermediate accounting studies, and end the program with a series of advanced accounting courses including auditing, advanced financial accounting, cost accounting, and income tax accounting.

Our department takes a broad view of the Earth and offers courses that develop a scientific understanding of our planet, its history, natural systems, resources and recent global change. We offer rigorous degree programs in Geology and Environmental Science that will prepare you for successful careers. Students in our department are immersed in experiences driven by our hands-on approach to learning.

We build outdoor experiences into every class and facilitate abundant domestic and international travel opportunities. While many of these trips explore fascinating locations throughout California, we also offer trips that explore a much broader range of locations around our world. Our majors travel to a range of regional and international destinations, including Scotland, the Chilean Patagonia, Hawaii, the Colorado plateau, and a variety of locations throughout the west coast of North America. Many of our majors work closely with faculty on award-winning research projects that can take students to exotic geologic locales, including western Ireland, Japan, the ancient Appalachian Mountains of upstate New York, the Marshall Islands and the high Sierra Nevada.

The applied mathematics major is designed for students who are interested in applying their mathematics skills to problems in the real world, for example, in engineering. Our students graduate with a passion for mathematics and learning and are able to apply the problem-solving skills learned in the classroom to the world around them. Our mathematics program offers opportunities for you to refine your knowledge and use of mathematics content, communication and teamwork, mathematical reasoning and problem solving, and technology. Courses are intended to give you a competitive edge when you enter the job market.

Students who choose to major in mathematics are provided opportunities to develop strong problem solving skills that use quantitative methods and appropriate technology. They understand the strengths, limitations and wide applicability of mathematical modeling in a variety of disciplines. Students develop an appreciation for the discipline and esthetics of mathematics, effectiveness in problem solving, and an appropriate understanding of theory. Graduates who major in mathematics are prepared for the many careers in which mathematics plays an important role, for further study in Mathematics at the graduate level, or for careers in teaching mathematics.

The mission of the Department of Speech-Language Pathology is to prepare reflective speech-language pathologists and audiologists for lifelong success by providing an excellent student-centered experiential learning environment. Our students are mentored in developing leadership, critical thinking skills, and a strong commitment to their profession and society. These efforts are assisted by the department's commitment to professional growth through clinical practice, scholarly activity, and service to the profession and the community. Through these studies, students learn about the religious phenomena that have shaped human civilizations. In addition to deep knowledge of this religious and cultural activity, our students acquire intellectual skills that serve them throughout their educational endeavors and beyond. Religion has historically shaped and continues to influence cultures and institutions worldwide. It is useful to explore spiritual traditions in order to examine ultimate religious and ethical questions.

Students will graduate with the ability to reflect upon, appreciate, and be open to criticism, practices, beliefs, and institutions of other cultures as well as their own. Through this exposure, students come to better understand the world, themselves, and their place in the world.
