Education in mathematics assists students in developing, to their fullest potential, their mathematical reasoning, communication and problem solving skills. Students who choose to major in mathematics are provided opportunities to develop strong problem solving skills that use quantitative methods and appropriate technology. They understand the strengths, limitations and wide applicability of mathematical modeling in a variety of disciplines. Students develop an appreciation for the discipline and esthetics of mathematics, effectiveness in problem solving, and an appropriate understanding of theory.

The Department of English is an active and thriving community, where students meet respected professionals who are using their own English degrees in innovative and exciting ways, and gain hands-on publishing experience by working on Pacific's nationally-recognized, award-winning literary magazine, Calliope. Our students graduate with real-world skills and a passion for literature and knowledge that give them a unique perspective on the world around them as they step into their futures.

Electrical engineering is a broad field that encompasses a wide range of topics such as communication systems, automatic control systems, energy conversion, digital signal processing and integrated circuits. Students pursuing an electrical engineering degree are taught fundamentals that allow them to understand their area of concentration as well as grasp general engineering concepts. This broad understanding of engineering allows electrical engineers to communicate their ideas to others in their field and adapt to rapidly changing technology.

Throughout their time at Pacific, students work with a faculty mentor to develop a curriculum plan based around their interests and skills. Whether it’s renewable energy systems or motor control, electrical engineering electives provide avenues for exploration within this broad, dynamic field.

That's pretty broad, but so is a physics degree. Physics majors of course most often go into scientific or technical fields (like optics, superconductivity, nanotechnology, new energy methods, etc.), but it is a very flexible degree. Physics majors go on to careers in biology, law, financial firms, teaching, and other areas — basically anywhere there are difficult problems to solve.

We live in an "information now" society, and thousands of careers are open to graduates who possess the skills that are emphasized in our department. Our mission is to prepare you to be a communication leader in your community and career field.

As an economics major or minor, you will be taught how to conceptualize your own roles in society, whether acting as an individual, a member of a private-sector firm or as a public servant in the government sector. You will learn how to apply theoretical understanding and analytical skills to a wide variety of issues, problems and policies.

You will graduate ready to put those skills to use across a wide variety of industries working in business, finance, law or for governmental or non-profit agencies in nearly any field.

All of our classes emphasize real-world applications and implications of the material, always making the connection between what you are learning in the classroom and what you will need to be successful in your career and as citizen-leader.

The Social Sciences major is an interdisciplinary program that provides training in History, Political Science, Sociology, Economics and Geography. Social Sciences students learn both qualitative and quantitative methodologies in their exploration of human society. Graduates may pursue careers such as business administration, government, law, law enforcement, human resources, and public policy. The major is also designed for students interested in high school teaching and coaching. The major is aligned with the Social Science subject matter exam on the California Subject Examination for Teachers (CSET). Prospective teachers must earn a passing score on the the Social Sciences CSET exam to be certified as teachers.

This major appeals to students with a broad range of interests. Students completing the Social Sciences major in the College of the Pacific may also concurrently complete the Single Subject Credential through the Benerd School of Education. The major requires a minimum of 45 semester units, detailed below. Music Management degree at University of the Pacific prepares students for a wide variety of music careers where knowledge and understanding of music performance, repertoire, styles and history are valuable assets. We fosters learning qualities such as innovation, risk-taking, experiential learning and out-of-the-box thinking and understand that innovation and creativity are necessary aspects of entrepreneurship. Your success depends on career readiness upon graduation. To achieve that, our students conceive and execute music and media projects such as recordings, videos, websites and tour packages, and produce various promotions, especially in conjunction with social media.

The Music Performance major offers you an opportunity to study the fundamental principles of your chosen instrument through a broad range of pedagogical approaches that culminate in the holistic performance of a broad range of literature. Our faculty are professional musicians and educators experienced in all facets of performance. Students have the opportunity to perform in master classes, solo recitals and in a wide range of ensembles including band, orchestra, jazz, choir, opera, contemporary and chamber music.
