The Master of Public Health (MPH) provides you with a strong foundation in primary public health fields and advanced knowledge in your area of interest. Concentration options include biomedical sciences, biostatistics, environmental health, epidemiology, health policy and management, and social behavior and community health.

Accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health, the two-year MPH program includes professional internships that let you directly contribute to the success of public programs that aim to eradicate disease, develop vaccines, reduce infant mortality, ensure food safety, monitor water quality, and more.

Social Behavior and Community Health
Explore the ways population health is affected by individuals, groups, and culture. Learn how to evaluate the effectiveness of strategic public health interventions and design and improve community health programs to reduce the prevalence of risk behaviors and improve health service delivery.

Improve your understanding of modern society and the nature of humanity by studying concepts in logic, epistemology, reason, justice, and ethics.

The bachelor's in philosophy program at the University at Albany provides a multifaceted curriculum that enables you to develop an informed perspective on politics, economics, sociology, science, and the arts. 

Because philosophy is grounded in critical thinking and communication skills that are useful in every career, it makes a great second major if you’re pursuing a narrower field of study.

Public Policy
If you're interested in public policy we have two main concentrations and a set of substantive concentrations in specific policy areas (e.g., health policy; education policy; criminal justice policy; women and public policy, global affairs, etc) that you might choose to design with the assistance of your advisor.

If you're interested in more applied quantitative or qualitative skills in conducting policy analysis, we recommend the Policy Analytic Methods concentration.

If you have an interest in the policy process and politics (i.e., drafting legislation, political advocacy/strategy, lobbying, etc), we recommend the Policy Process, Politics and Institutions concentration.

Learn how to analyze and report on policy issues, and how to manage information resources in the public and not-for-profit sectors.

To develop specialized skills, you can earn sub-concentrations by taking multiple courses in one or two sub-fields:
Policy Analysis
Work at a research institute or a government agency to evaluate how well policies and public programs work. Work as a legislative analyst to identify the best policy to implement. Policy Process, Politics and Institutions
Understand the role of public institutions in policies development and the administration of political systems of the United States and other countries.

Examine human interaction from a local, national and global perspectives to better understand the impact of social influence on others. Develop and test theories using quantitative and qualitative methods to predict and understand how patterns of relationships and culture work in the bachelor's in sociology program at the University at Albany.

Investigate molecular and genetic bases of cellular processes to become equipped for a future in advanced scientific research, or for admission to medical school or a PhD program. The bachelor’s in biochemistry and molecular biology is a research-focused major that prepares you for diverse careers in biotechnology, medicine, pharmaceuticals and engineering.

You’ll prepare for responsible and effective citizenship, political participation, and advanced academic or professional studies. The political science bachelor's program allows you to focus on the subjects that interest you most, with upper-level concentrations available in American politics; citizenship; equality and inequality; global politics; law and institutions; political theory; political economy and development; public law; security and statecraft.

Located less than one mile from the New York State Capitol, it’s easy to get a head start on a career in law or government as political science major at the widely respected Rockefeller College of Public Affairs & Policy.

Citizenship
Citizenship is a central concept to the study of politics with deep historical roots and increasing tension in modern political life. Courses in this concentration focus on the concept from both the theoretical and empirical standpoints in the U.S. and globally. You will examine citizenship from the individual and institutional perspectives. You will also learn what it means to be a citizen from a legal and a normative vantage point, as a political identity, and in the public policy process.

Investigate how organisms evolve and the ways in which living systems impact their environment.  In the Bachelor of Arts in Biological Sciences program at the University at Albany, you will combine the scientific rigor of biology with the breadth and scope of another field of interest.

This program prepares you for jobs where scientific knowledge and practices are crucial. Fields include science-related businesses, such as pharmaceutical and biotech research firms; legal fields related to biotechnology, like regulation and patent law; and science journalism and writing.

Pursue a career in teaching, performance, arts administration, or the music industry with the bachelor's in music program at the University at Albany. The Bachelor of Science in Chemistry program is a combined major and minor sequence. You can follow one of three tracks:

• General Chemistry
• Chemical Biology
• Forensic Chemistry

Each of these tracks features an honors program option. The chemistry curricula is designed according to American Chemical Society standards, which means you'll study two semesters of General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry and Physical Chemistry, along with formal laboratory experience.
