Environmental Policy

Photography and Related Media
The photography program encourages and facilitates artistic development and sensitivity. Students develop a basic understanding of photographic practices, both historical and contemporary, and explore the myriad ways in which photographs both reflect and define culture. Through courses in black and white and color photography, non-silver processes, and studio photography, students gain empirical knowledge of the many technical and conceptual dimensions of the medium.

The current convergence of most traditional forms of art-making with digital technology presents exciting and complex challenges for artists today. The Photography and Related Media program is structured to empower artists of the future to address these challenges by providing a multi-disciplinary artistic base, informed by a strong foundation in theory and criticism. Students work closely with faculty and peers to develop their unique direction and focus as working artists, utilizing state-of-the-art hardware and software to discover how emerging technologies might inform their work. Technology and Policy
We cannot imagine a world without technological advances, but is technology always helpful? What can go wrong if an algorithm is poorly designed? You will practice technical skills, including programming and geospatial analysis, and gain a broad understanding of emerging trends in information and technology.

The master’s in geography offers a two-year thesis track or one-year, non-thesis track. Choose the thesis track if you intend to pursue further academic study or the non-thesis track if you are obtaining a master’s degree to advance your career in the field.

UAlbany’s master’s in digital forensics and cybersecurity will teach you how to rapidly detect and deter malicious network intruders and use special forensics tools to gather and analyze digital evidence.

Cyber Operations Track
This track covers security techniques and architecture, intrusion detection systems and firewalls, threat analysis, algorithm design, penetration testing, symmetric and asymmetric cryptography, digital signatures, cryptographic key management, and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) programming.

By the end of the program, you’ll know how to test information system defenses, identify and mitigate malicious activity, secure embedded systems from unauthorized access, protect data with cryptographic protocols, attack operating systems via Linux, and gather information about perpetrators using open source intelligence.
