Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.
It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.

Explore topics in arts, humanities and the social sciences in the master’s in liberal studies program at UAlbany. From literary and cultural studies to political theory and environmental law, this interdisciplinary program lets you create a highly personalized curriculum to develop your historical and theoretical background.
If you are interested in issues in contemporary cultural theory in a global context, this program will help you advance your research skills and academic credentials. Culminating in a thesis, the liberal studies MA prepares you for additional study at the doctoral level or for a career in a wide range of fields including public service, education, and healthcare.
Design your own MA track with help from the program director and active faculty. You will first complete requirements from humanities and social sciences survey courses, each of which offers a broad overview of its field.
