The Health Science Studies major (designated as a pre-major) serves as pre-professional preparation for medical, dental, physical therapy, or other professional graduate programs. The program helps students identify and meet entrance criteria to allied health degree programs.  It also emphasizes health, fitness, and wellness. Available courses include:

• Epidemiology/Vital Statistics
• Anatomical Kinesiology
• Dimensions of Health Science Studies
• Internship in Human Performance

The program has a long, successful history with students moving on to medical, dental and physical therapy schools. Many also move on to secondary general science educations. Students are encouraged to volunteer at clinics, hospitals, etc. to gain experience in their field of interest.

Mechanical Engineering
The Mechanical Engineering major (designated as a pre-major) helps students build a strong engineering foundation by studying thermal/fluids, materials/mechanical systems and design. In addition to foundational mechanical engineering courses, students can further specialize by choosing electives that will improve their ability to apply fundamentals and to design machines and energy systems. Journalism
The Department of Journalism, Public Relations and New Media educates students in writing, editing, photography and public relations for written and graphic communication. There are three sequences (tracks) available. Each sequence maintains the same required Journalism Core and highlights different areas within the field of journalism.

The News-Editorial sequence focuses on developing reporting, writing and editing skills. The Public Relations sequence emphasizes the importance of branding and public image. The New Media sequence includes both advertising skills (copywriting, research design and media planning) and photojournalism that focuses more on the visual components of journalism. The Risk Management and Insurance major (designated as a pre-major) focuses on identifying financial and economic characteristics of risks to which firms and individuals are exposed and developing effective strategies for managing such risks. Available courses include:

Science Research Fellows is a one-of-a-kind interdisciplinary major (BS) that provides students with an academic foundation for successful research careers in:

Neuroscience
The Neuroscience major (designated as a pre-major) is the study of the nervous system with a special emphasis on the brain. Neuroscience spans many academic fields, including biology, psychology and chemistry.  Courses develop a thorough understanding of the nervous system, from molecules and genes to behavior and motor skills, and related disorders.  Available courses include:

The Latin American Studies program is a combination of study and research on Spanish- and Portuguese- speaking countries including Central America, South America and Europe. Students will understand the political, cultural and historical issues of the Latin American culture. Available courses include:

• The History of Gender in Latin America
• Pre-Columbian Civilizations
• Inter-American Relations

The Latin American Studies program promotes and encourages academic works in Latin America. It also encourages travel and exchange with institutions of higher learning in Latin America and Spain. Baylor currently offers study abroad programs to several countries in Latin America: Brazil, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru and Argentina.

Electrical and Computer Engineering
The Electrical and Computer Engineering major (designated as a pre-major) is a nationally-recognized program designed for students interested in math and science and the advancement of technology. The Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) has accredited the Baylor program, which gives ECE students the opportunity to analyze, design and build a variety of devices enabling an understanding of the principles behind modern technologies and prepare them to play a role in shaping the future. Greek
Greek program is in the Classics Department. Students with a Greek major study texts taught in their original language, grammar and Greek culture. Coursework also includes the study of philosophy, religion and history as well as archaeology and art associated with the Greek language.  Available courses include:

• Classical Mythology
• Seminar in New Testament Greek

A Greek major is ideal for students wishing to pursue further studies in law or seminary.  Many of our graduates pursue teaching careers or graduate studies.
