Astronomy
Astronomy is the study of the universe and all the bodies within it. It examines origins of the universe, stars and planets as well as how they move and evolve in space. Since scientists are rarely able to physically examine many objects in space, astronomy is mostly an observational science. Math, physics, chemistry and geology contribute to astronomy and help inform our understanding of the universe. Astronomy also relies on a variety of instruments, tools, and computer software for analysis and gathering data. Available courses include:

Theatre Design and Technology
The Theatre Design and Technology major is ideal for students who wish to pursue careers in set design, costume design, lighting design, or technical design. Students work with the Theatre Arts production crews and can select a focus within the design categories, which can help them build their portfolio throughout their time at Baylor. The Business for Secondary Education major (designated as a pre-major) is a Bachelor of Business Administration degree designed for students planning to teach business courses at the high school level. Coursework is a combination of the fundamentals of business and education courses. Available courses include:

• Teaching in Secondary Schools
• Principles of Microeconomics
• Social Issues in Education
• The Intellectual Tradition in the Ancient World
• Legal Environment of Business

Students complete internship semesters where they work in local schools. This degree leads to Texas teacher certification.

The Instrumental Music major in the Bachelor of Music Education degree program is for students interested in teaching instrumental music in public schools. This degree leads to Texas teacher certification. Students are able to choose a string or wind/percussion concentration.  Areas of study include:

• Elementary Conducting
• Instrumental Music in the Secondary School
• Marching Band/Jazz Pedagogy
• String Methods

All students desiring to pursue a Bachelor of Music, Bachelor of Music Education, or Bachelor of Arts in Music degree must audition.  Music faculty review auditions for acceptance into each music degree program.

Student teaching is a component of the Bachelor of Music Education degree.  Graduates have found teaching careers in public and private schools in Texas and throughout the country.

Child and Family Studies
The Child and Family Studies (CFS) program at Baylor University focuses on the development of individuals and families as they grow and change. Students in this major study the dynamics of the life span (prenatal through late adulthood). This program offers four concentrations specializing in a content area, including:

No matter what career path is chosen, students will become professionals who practice critical thinking, self-reflection and scientific inquiry. We desire that they know and use ethical guidelines and professional standards related to our field.

The Physical Education major prepares students for teaching or coaching grades K-12. This degree program satisfies the requirements for the Texas Teachers Certification and prepares students to teach grades K-12 with an emphasis in coaching in either a private or a public school setting.
