The Physics major is the study of matter, energy, force and motion and the way in which they relate to one another. It provides a comprehensive curriculum that prepares students for graduate studies or careers in technology, medicine, education, law, finance, industry and other professions. Available courses include:
Students can pursue either a BS or BA in Physics. The Bachelor of Science in Physics prepares students for graduate studies or careers in technology, medicine, education, law, finance, industry, and other professions. The Bachelor of Arts in Physics provides a traditional liberal arts education with a solid set of core courses in physics. Physics is also offered as a secondary major or minor for students who are pursuing a different field of study.

Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.
It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.

Bachelor of Arts in Astronomy
Astronomy is the study of the universe and all the bodies within it. It examines origins of the universe, stars and planets as well as how they move and evolve in space. Since scientists are rarely able to physically examine many objects in space, astronomy is mostly an observational science. Asian Studies
The Asian Studies program provides opportunities for study and research of the diverse societies that inhabit the Asian continent. The program takes as its geographical focus the regions of Eurasia and the Asia-Pacific. Interdisciplinary in approach, the program spans the fields of economics, foreign languages, history, political science, sociology and religion, and is dedicated to providing opportunities for foreign study and field experiences.

Education - Elementary Education
The Elementary Education program is ideal for individuals who are passionate about making a difference through teaching young children and want to become change agents in education. The program prepares highly qualified teachers for work in diverse school settings in Early Childhood through Grade Six. Graduates of the Elementary program earn a Bachelor of Science in Education (B.S. Ed.) and prepare for the Elementary Generalist certification. Supplemental certification may be added in English as a Second Language or Gifted and Talented Education or Special Education.

Bachelor of Science in Education Certification - Music Education
The Music Education Certification program is a joint program of the School of Music and the School of Education. A music student who meets requirements for a teacher's certificate must also meet the requirements for a Bachelor of Music Education degree.
The competitive program includes field experiences and on-campus instruction in music and pedagogy. Graduates of the music education program find successful careers in schools throughout the nation.
Students can choose three tracks of Music Education:
All students desiring to pursue a Bachelor of Music, Bachelor of Education or Bachelor of Arts in Music degree must audition before members of the appropriate applied music faculty for acceptance into the appropriate music degree program.
Student teaching is a component of the Bachelor of Music Education degree and students graduating from the Choral Music program have found teaching careers in public and private schools in Texas and throughout the country.
All majors in the School of Music require ensemble participation. Visit the Ensembles page for more information on the variety of ensemble opportunities available. Every year, the School of Music presents over 300 concerts and recitals.
