The International Year program is designed especially for international students. Education - Secondary Physical Sciences
The Secondary Education program prepares students to work in grades 7-12. Graduates of the Secondary Education program earn a Bachelor of Science in Education (B.S. Ed.) with certification in one subject area (listed below). Supplemental certification may be added in English as a Second Language.

The Physical Education major prepares students for teaching or coaching grades K-12. This degree program satisfies the requirements for the Texas Teachers Certification and prepares students to teach grades K-12 with an emphasis in coaching in either a private or a public school setting. Available courses include:

The Baylor Education program offers a unique opportunity for students planning to teach upon graduation. Beginning freshman year, all teaching majors have several internships in different schools in Waco. This hands-on experience puts theories into practice and helps set Baylor students apart from other candidates in the field.  This is because Baylor requires more in classroom hours than most standard education programs.

Latin American Studies
The Latin American Studies program is a combination of study and research on Spanish- and Portuguese- speaking countries including Central America, South America and Europe. Students will understand the political, cultural and historical issues of the Latin American culture. Available courses include:

• Latin American Nations and People
• Traditional Music and Culture in Latin America
• The History of Gender in Latin America
• Pre-Columbian Civilizations
• Inter-American Relations

The Latin American Studies program promotes and encourages academic works in Latin America. It also encourages travel and exchange with institutions of higher learning in Latin America and Spain. Baylor currently offers study abroad programs to several countries in Latin America: Brazil, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru and Argentina.

Astrophysics is the branch of Astronomy that deals with the physics of space. It includes the physical properties of space objects (like planets, starts, galaxies and comets) as well as their interactions. Astrophysics includes many other disciplines from physics, such as electromagnetism, relativity, mechanics, and atomic and molecular physics. The Astrophysics major is offered as either a Bachelor of Science (BS) or a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree. Available courses include:

• Intermediate Electricity and Magnetism
• Introduction to Modern Cosmology

The BS in Astrophysics provides a comprehensive curriculum that prepares students for graduate studies or careers in technology, medicine, education, law, finance industry, and research.

The Business for Secondary Education major (designated as a pre-major) is a Bachelor of Business Administration degree designed for students planning to teach business courses at the high school level. Coursework is a combination of the fundamentals of business and education courses. Available courses include:

• Teaching in Secondary Schools
• Principles of Microeconomics
• Social Issues in Education
• The Intellectual Tradition in the Ancient World
• Legal Environment of Business

Students complete internship semesters where they work in local schools. This degree leads to Texas teacher certification.

The Middle Grades Education Program is ideal for students who are eager to work with growing minds and daily changes. When teaching middle grades students, who are discovering who they are and what they want to do with their lives, there is rarely a dull moment in the classroom. The program prepares highly qualified teachers that will earn a Bachelor of Science in Education (B.S. Ed.) with a specific subject in 4-8 certification. Supplemental certification may be added in English as a Second Language.

English
English majors focus on analyzing and interpreting a variety of literature like novels, short stories, essays, poetry and other works of creative writing. The coursework includes a variety of studies including history, politics, arts and culture.

The Theatre Design and Technology major is ideal for students who wish to pursue careers in set design, costume design, lighting design, or technical design. Students work with the Theatre Arts production crews and can select a focus within the design categories, which can help them build their portfolio throughout their time at Baylor. The Risk Management and Insurance major (designated as a pre-major) focuses on identifying financial and economic characteristics of risks to which firms and individuals are exposed and developing effective strategies for managing such risks. Available courses include:

• Fundamentals of Life and Health Insurance
• Fundamentals of Property and Liability Insurance
• Employee Benefit Planning
• Business Risk Management
• International Business Finance

The Health, Kinesiology, and Leisure Studies major is for students preparing for the general career areas of health, fitness, recreation and sports, so it is well suited students unsure of which area they are most interested in pursuing. The program's popular feature is that general electives may also meet entrance requirements for professional schools. This is especially helpful in those instances where Baylor University does not have a pre-professional degree program in the field a student is interested in.  Course available include:

• Research Methods and Design in Exercise Science

The major has a wide diversity of subject matter.  It provides students the opportunity to work in career areas of health, fitness, recreation or sports. Students also often pursue graduate school after completing the degree.
