Overview

The industrial design degree program will teach you how to hone your aesthetic design skills in order to develop prototypes for consumer and industrial products. You’ll take technical and mathematics courses from which you will learn analytical competence needed to successfully develop your prototyping ability.

As an Industrial Design major, you will become a member of DePaul’s makerspace community and work alongside award-winning faculty in the Idea Realization Lab (IRL) or IRL2 — DePaul’s interdisciplinary 4,500-square-foot campus makerspaces (located on the Loop and Lincoln Park campuses, respectively). In this community, you will learn to design within the constraints of what is practical and possible through the use of several rapid prototyping technologies.

Work Permit USA

Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.

It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.

A student can participate in three types of Optional Practical Training (OPT):

  1. Pre-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment provided to F-1 students before completion of their course of study.
  2. Post-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment available to F-1 students after completing their course of study.
  3. 24 Month STEM Extension: Students enrolled in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) courses can a 24-month extension after their initial Post-Completion OPT authorization.

Psychological Science MA program is a highly competitive program that trains students in the theories and methodologies that define the core scientific pillars of psychology: social, developmental, cognitive and neuroscience.

With an emphasis on critical and integrative thinking, our students will understand the psychological foundations of human thought, emotions, motivation and behavior while conducting innovative research on diverse topics within psychology. The Secondary Education program prepares you to teach 9th through 12th grade in a variety of urban and suburban education settings, including public and private high schools. As part of the secondary education major, you’ll learn educational theories and effective teaching practices, including how to design and implement curriculum; participate in extensive field experiences at multiple schools, and student-teach for 10 weeks.

Environmental Studies & Earth Sciences

Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science

As an Environmental Science major you will study a broad science-based curriculum that will expose you to multiple fields of scientific study, provide you with an understanding of environmental problems and solutions and prepare you for a technical career in environmental science. Environmental Science faculty members are active researchers in soil and wetland science, restoration ecology, geology, paleontology, and conservation biology, offering environmental science majors many opportunities to gain hands-on research experience.

DePaul’s close proximity to Lake Michigan, Chicago’s urban ecosystem, as well as the many environmental science conferences that are held in the city, will allow you to interact and work with professionals in the field and learn about important environmental issues.

In the Bachelor of Arts (BA) and Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Art, Media, and Design programs, you will expand your artistic potential through a broad-based education in studio art, photography and media art, or graphic art.

Learn the history of and experience the creative possibilities of visual culture through a project-based curriculum in art-making. The programs emphasize fundamental artistic concepts through problem solving and experimentation in studio courses.

You’ll work closely with faculty who are practicing artists in dedicated art studios on campus.

As you work on your art and design degree, you’ll spend time in photography dark rooms, wood and metal workshops, and in studios in the following art areas: sculpture, printmaking, video, photography, digital photography, graphic art, painting and drawing.

Master of Arts in Mathematics Education

The master’s in Mathematics Education is an accelerated, six-quarter program for current and future secondary school math teachers. Meant to improve math instruction in Chicago and its suburbs, the program focuses on math content and teaching strategies and technologies, all directly tied to secondary curricular needs.

The only graduate program of its kind in the area, this 18-month program can be completed over a series of intensive weekend-only sessions that focus on

  • Differential and integral calculus, numerical algorithms related to calculus and implementation of these algorithms using graphing calculators and web-based software;
  • Euclidean and non-Euclidean geometry using software packages that emphasize content connected to the high school curriculum;
  • Discrete mathematical structures with an emphasis on logic, proof and mathematical reasoning;

The Sports Communication program will prepare you for career opportunities in the sports industry. In DePaul’s Cyber-Physical Systems Engineering program, you’ll learn about engineering systems that integrate physical processes, computation and control. You’ll gain an understanding of how cyber-physical systems are used to manage electric grids and other infrastructures, home utilities and appliances, robots, autonomous vehicles, environmental sensor networks, traffic control, smart toys and Internet of Things (IoT) systems.

As you work toward your cyber engineering degree, you’ll learn how to:

  • Analyze a simple physical process and develop a mathematical model that describes it

  • Solve a computational problem by selecting appropriate data structures and algorithms
