American Studies majors will examine the breadth and diversity of the American experience. American Studies is an interdisciplinary program that integrates the study of literature, history, geography, media, politics, popular culture, art and religion in order to critically analyze American society, culture, institutions and intellectual traditions.

As an American Studies major, you’ll be encouraged to question what constitutes American culture, and how cultural expressions reflect and reveal American values, beliefs, prejudices, pleasures and perceptions.

American Studies majors will gain competency in American cultural studies by mastering the theoretical and intellectual frameworks of their concentrations and by learning to interpret and analyze primary documents. Students in other interdisciplinary programs find American Studies a common double major or minor when combined with majors such as history, communication, anthropology, English, political science or sociology.

Learn your craft from award-winning screenwriting faculty who not only have decades of experience as professional film and TV writers in Hollywood, but are also as passionate about storytelling as you are.

Find your voice in a unique, multicultural university setting as you write short and feature-length screenplays, original TV pilots and episodes, and web series.

The MFA in Game Design is for creative visionaries intent on producing socially, culturally, and emotionally substantial work. The degree prepares students to advance the frontier of games by exploring emerging theories and applying them to practice. The games students create throughout their degree will be challenged by peers and faculty in critiques. Graduates of the program will be equipped to define and realize their authentic, thriving professional lives. An MFA is also a terminal degree that opens opportunities to teach at the university level and enter an academic tenure-track career.

In our geography program, you’ll learn how to apply methods such as observation, visualization, analysis and modeling to explain the spatial relationships between people and their physical environments.

As a geography major, you’ll take advantage of the department’s cutting-edge technical resources and hands-on research approach. You’ll also learn how to use tools such as Google Earth, satellite image processing, computer mapping, global positioning systems (GPS) and geographic information systems (GIS) to stay ahead of industry trends.

In addition to a variety of combined degree programs, we offer geography majors a combined bachelor’s + master’s degree in Geography and Secondary Education Social Science, which allows you to complete a bachelor’s degree and a graduate degree in as few as five years.

The World Language Education (WLE) program integrates education and language courses. Your foreign language education degree will prepare you to teach kindergarten through 12th grade in a variety of urban and suburban education settings, including public and private schools.

As part of this program, you will take language courses from the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences and education courses from the College of Education. You will earn a BA from the College of Education, and concentrations are offered in Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese and Spanish.

DePaul's Master’s in Artificial Intelligence will prepare you for a successful career in this fast-growing field. You will gain advanced technical skills and a deep understanding of concepts and techniques in artificial intelligence and machine learning to build and support AI empowered systems. Discover how to create complex intelligent systems and integrate AI techniques into existing applications and processes, by exploring relevant technical areas including natural language processing, big data systems, computer vision, image processing, robotics, and cybersecurity.

As a German major, you’ll study German and Austrian cultures (authors, musicians, literature), language and notions of German history. German is the most widely spoken first language in the European Union, and German-speaking countries are among the most influential engines driving culture, business and politics today.

Through your studies, you will learn that the German-speaking world is rich and multifaceted, including the works of Mozart, Goethe, Freud, Kafka and Marx. As a German major, you’ll explore the crucial questions of memory and history particular to the German past. You’ll become equipped with crucial skills in reading, writing, critical thinking, and intercultural communication—providing you with career opportunities around the world.

Explore how gender, race and class are constructed in society

DePaul’s Women’s and Gender Studies MA program emphasizes critical theory and analysis in examining women’s lives, conditions and contributions within their historical, social, cultural, national and transnational contexts. Take a critical look at how gender, race, class and other systems of power are constructed in society.

The curriculum:-

• Focuses on the interconnectedness of local and global and feminist theories, methodologies, research, public policies and social movements
• Addresses issues of power, resistance and social transformation
• Connects feminist theories to activism and social justice
• Engages communities through research, advocacy and service

In the Bachelor of Arts (BA) and the Bachelor of Science (BS) in Mathematical Sciences programs, your mathematics degree coursework will teach you fundamentals of pure and applied mathematics, preparing you for a career in mathematics, natural sciences, computer science, social sciences or business.

As a mathematics degree student, you’ll choose one of the following seven concentrations:

• Actuarial Science
• Applied and Computational Mathematics
• Financial Mathematics
• Pure Mathematics
• Quantitative Analysis and Operations Research
• Statistics

Our sociology degree program will help you develop the critical thinking skills needed to effectively observe sociological topics and become equipped to conduct sociological research.

As you work toward your Sociology degree, you’ll take advantage of exploring Chicago—a laboratory for research and observation with its ethnic communities, economic development and urban issues, giving you the opportunity to access Chicago’s rich and diverse culture through service opportunities, field experience and internships.

We offer combined bachelor’s + master’s degree programs including a combined bachelor’s in Sociology and a master’s in Secondary Education Social Sciences degree. These programs allow you to complete a bachelor’s degree and a graduate degree in as few as five years.
