Master of Arts in Mathematics Education

The master’s in Mathematics Education is an accelerated, six-quarter program for current and future secondary school math teachers. Meant to improve math instruction in Chicago and its suburbs, the program focuses on math content and teaching strategies and technologies, all directly tied to secondary curricular needs.

The only graduate program of its kind in the area, this 18-month program can be completed over a series of intensive weekend-only sessions that focus on

• Differential and integral calculus, numerical algorithms related to calculus and implementation of these algorithms using graphing calculators and web-based software;
• Euclidean and non-Euclidean geometry using software packages that emphasize content connected to the high school curriculum;
• Discrete mathematical structures with an emphasis on logic, proof and mathematical reasoning;
• Probability and statistics with an introduction to combinatorics;
• History of elementary number theory, algebra and geometry;
• Topics in abstract algebra that relate to high school courses in algebra, geometry and trigonometry; and
• Topics in real analysis with an emphasis on improving calculus instruction.

The graduate jazz studies program provides students a comprehensive education in jazz, allowing students to specialize in either performance or composition. Drawing upon the resources of the Chicago jazz scene, faculty members are highly celebrated performers, teachers, composers, and arrangers. In addition to applied jazz lessons, jazz ensembles, and jazz combos, Master of Music students enroll in courses such as jazz theory, history, pedagogy, improvisation, composing, and/or arranging. Throughout the program, jazz students have multiple opportunities to record performances and compositions in professional recording studios.

In the Management Information Systems (MIS) program, you’ll learn both the business and technological foundations of information systems management. DePaul’s undergraduate MIS degree program will prepare you to pursue a variety of careers requiring both business and technological skills.

As you earn your MIS degree, you will

• Acquire a broad understanding of information technologies and the information systems life cycle as they apply to business processes
• Gain the ability to identify organizational data

Prepare to share your skills and knowledge as a classroom instructor of math. DePaul’s MS in Mathematics for Teaching is the only graduate program in the area for career-changers planning to teach math at the community college level. Intensive weekend and evening sessions focus on

The World Language Education (WLE) program integrates education and language courses. Your foreign language education degree will prepare you to teach kindergarten through 12th grade in a variety of urban and suburban education settings, including public and private schools.

As part of this program, you will take language courses from the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences and education courses from the College of Education. You will earn a BA from the College of Education, and concentrations are offered in Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese and Spanish.

The Master of Nonprofit Management (MNM) will prepare you for a leadership position in the nonprofit world, or even ready you to start your own nonprofit organization. DePaul’s MNM degree is designed specifically to correspond with the curriculum goals of the Nonprofit Academic Centers Council.

Some courses are available online. The Marketing concentration is designed for data science master’s students who want to combine strong technical skills in analytics with competency in marketing analytics and customer relationship management. You’ll learn how to extract information from data to support business decision making and marketing decisions.

The tools and methods of Applied Mathematics are in demand wherever quantitative analysis is used for strategic decision-making. The MS in Applied Mathematics gives you the expertise you need to use those tools and methods in business, industry or government.

Actuarial Science Concentration
The Actuarial Science concentration? caters to career changers as well as students who would like to further their actuarial training. It condenses a comprehensive actuarial curriculum into just two years, with an emphasis on the theory and problem-solving skills that are key to passing actuarial exams, and the computational methods that are sought after in the job market. Most of our graduates get internships and full-time jobs as actuarial analysts in insurance companies and consulting firms.

The Master of Public Health (MPH) program provides a collaborative, applied approach to public health education, focusing on health promotion and disease prevention to vulnerable populations. Gain the knowledge and practical skills to become an effective public health leader and solve problems to reduce health disparities.

Community Health Practice
Community health practice: Assess a community’s health needs and design, implement and evaluate interventions that address those needs.

The MFA in Game Design is for creative visionaries intent on producing socially, culturally, and emotionally substantial work. The degree prepares students to advance the frontier of games by exploring emerging theories and applying them to practice. The games students create throughout their degree will be challenged by peers and faculty in critiques. Graduates of the program will be equipped to define and realize their authentic, thriving professional lives. An MFA is also a terminal degree that opens opportunities to teach at the university level and enter an academic tenure-track career.
