DePaul’s Art program provides a broad foundation in studio art with classes that focus on understanding fundamental artistic concepts through research and conceptual thinking, creative problem solving, artistic skill development, and the historical functions of art and how it impacts the present day and the future.

Art majors at DePaul take a wide range of courses in state-of-the-art facilities, including digital computer labs, darkrooms, and studios for wood and metal sculpture, video, printmaking, painting and drawing.

Class sizes are small, offering our Art majors personalized attention from professors who are also practicing artists. You’ll be encouraged to use art as a method of self-discovery and to reach your full potential as an artist in our evolving, visually oriented world.

In the Peace, Justice and Conflict Studies major, you will critically examine the origins and root causes of violence and conflict, and learn strategies for resolving interpersonal, communal and international conflicts peacefully. You will master the theoretical and intellectual frameworks related to peace building, human rights advocacy and justice development by learning to interpret real life situations and applying strategies for advocacy, consensus-building, partnership development and other intervention tools.

You will complete an internship with an organization related to peace, social justice or conflict resolution.

Diplomacy and Migration
The Diplomacy and Migration concentration provides students with a foundation for applying the tools and understanding of diplomatic practices--such as mediation, conflict resolution, advocacy and leadership—to the pressing challenges posed by forced migration. Students will have the opportunity to place the study and practice of diplomacy into conversation with the disciplines of history, forced migration studies, human rights law, public health, and international relations.

Diplomacy and International Public Service
The Diplomacy and International Public Service concentration provides students with a foundation for applying the tools and understanding of diplomatic practices to mediation, conflict resolution, advocacy, and leadership within international non-governmental organizations. Students will have the opportunity to place the study and practice of diplomacy in conversation with the disciplines of management, ethics, international political economy, public policy, and international relations.

DePaul’s master’s in Public Policy (MPP) gives you the skills, experience and analytical tools to help shape governmental policies that influence our local, regional and national agendas. You’ll also learn how to advance policies that are beneficial to urban communities and to advocate for those who are marginalized or at risk.

Using an applied, hands-on approach, you’ll focus on

The MA in Biological Sciences prepares you to communicate your knowledge of life and living systems to others. Graduates of the MA typically plan to pursue advanced education degrees or teaching positions. With a Biological Sciences MA, you will

• Develop laboratory skills and methodologies
• Develop your own concentration in partnership with an advisor

Classes take place on the Lincoln Park Campus and are typically held in the daytime.

The Women’s and Gender Studies degree program focuses on examining women’s and men’s identities and experiences in relation to gender, race, class and culture. Its curriculum addresses issues of power and resistance and connects feminist theories and research to public policy and social justice.

Classes focus on feminist and social justice theory with an emphasis on agency, social responsibility, advocacy and activism. You’ll develop strong writing and critical thinking skills and learn to make connections between theory and real-world practice.

Urban Diplomacy
The Urban Diplomacy concentration examines the practice of diplomacy within the boundaries of a single city. Students learn how to apply the tools and understanding of diplomatic practices like mediation, conflict resolution, advocacy, and leadership within the context of local government, community organizing, and globally-connected business.

The World Language Education (WLE) program integrates education and language courses. Your foreign language education degree will prepare you to teach kindergarten through 12th grade in a variety of urban and suburban education settings, including public and private schools.

As part of this program, you will take language courses from the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences and education courses from the College of Education. You will earn a BA from the College of Education, and concentrations are offered in Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese and Spanish.
