Metropolitan and Urban Affairs Concentration
This concentration is for students wanting to work in land use, transportation, economic development, zoning, housing, and other areas of community development. Coursework emphasizes the technical skills of public administration and the tools of analyses and development as applied in a broad public setting. Students study best practices to illustrate the effectiveness of alternative designs and models.

Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.
It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.
A student can participate in three types of Optional Practical Training (OPT):

Master of Science in Cybersecurity - Computer Security
The MS in Cybersecurity is intended for students who wish to specialize in the security aspects of the Information Technology field. This program educates professionals for the fast growing and wide ranging information security and cybersecurity markets by providing foundations in the theory of information security as well as knowledge needed to properly design, implement, and manage secured IT infrastructure and risks in an enterprise. Common career areas include Computer Forensics, Incident Response, Network Security Administration, Risk Assessment, and Web Development.
Computer Security
The Computer Security concentration focuses on fundamental security topics that arise in the design, analysis, and implementation of distributed systems. This concentration provides in-depth coverage of the theory and application of identity, authentication, access control, auditing, assessment and prevention of software vulnerabilities, and cryptography, in the context of modern enterprise-scale and web-based systems.

As part of the Grace School of Applied Diplomacy at DePaul, our Master of Applied Diplomacy program unites traditional and non-traditional approaches to the field of diplomacy. Here, we know that the work of diplomacy is not limited to members of the foreign service, but practiced by members of non-governmental organizations, business people, scientists, and community organizers.
Critical Ethnic Studies
The Diplomacy and Critical Ethnic Studies concentration provides students with a foundation for applying the tools and understanding of diplomatic practice—mediation, conflict resolution and advocacy—on behalf of marginalized communities. Students will have the opportunity to place the study and practice of diplomacy into conversation with the disciplines of critical race theory, ethnic studies, forced migration studies, history, and international studies.

Emergency Management is a critical concern for the public, private and non-profit sectors. The concentration explores both the conceptual elements of emergency preparedness and the practical implementation of emergency management that typically occur at the intersection of local and national politics. Courses will address topics such as public safety and law enforcement, crisis management, disaster response and recovery. This concentration will provide students with both theoretical and practical knowledge that will prepare them for private or public sector employment in the area of emergency preparedness for both security and non-security related incidents

Bachelor of Science in Psychology
In the Bachelor of Arts (BA) and the Bachelor of Science (BS) in Psychology programs, you’ll learn psychological theories and research methodologies, as well as gain an understanding of both scientific and applied psychology. As you work towards your bachelors’ degree in Psychology, you’ll design and conduct psychological research studies and learn how to read and analyze scientific data.
Your bachelors’ degree in Psychology coursework focuses on theories, experimental and statistical work, and laboratory and fieldwork, allowing you to gain hands-on research experience. You’ll have the opportunity to work with faculty members on research projects, as well as develop and conduct your own research projects through our independent study program.
You’ll choose from one of three concentrations: a General concentration, a Cognitive Neuroscience concentration, and a Healthcare concentration. These concentrations require you to take advanced courses through the Biology, Chemistry, and/or Mathematics departments. Students in the Cognitive Neuroscience program may declare a minor in Biology. Bachelor's degree in Psychology students may meet pre-health requirements while earning their degree. To ensure success, students in the Healthcare concentration are part of DePaul’s Pre-Health/Pre-Med Advising program.
DePaul offers combined degree programs such as a combined bachelor’s + master’s degree in Psychology and Secondary Education Social Sciences, allowing you to complete a bachelor’s degree and a graduate degree in as few as five years.

Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education - History
The Secondary Education program prepares you to teach 9th through 12th grade in a variety of urban and suburban education settings, including public and private high schools. You can graduate with a State of Illinois license to teach designated subject-area content (listed below). The program also provides you an opportunity to receive a Diploma Year Program Award (IB certification) to teach in International Baccalaureate schools world-wide.
As part of the secondary education major, you’ll learn educational theories and effective teaching practices, including how to design and implement curriculum; participate in extensive field experiences at multiple schools, and student-teach for 10 weeks.
