Overview

The Master of Social Work (MSW) program will prepare you for advanced social work, with attention to professional ethics, respect for human rights and recognition of the inherent dignity of all people. The curriculum is grounded equally in theory and practical application. Choose from one of two concentrations:

  • The Community Practice concentration prepares you to lead human service organizations.
  • The Forensic Social Work concentration prepares you for practice and advocacy in settings where human services and the legal system intersect.

You’ll be grouped in a small cohort, which enables you to get to know your colleagues and receive individualized attention from your professors.

Work Permit USA

Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.

It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.

A student can participate in three types of Optional Practical Training (OPT):

  1. Pre-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment provided to F-1 students before completion of their course of study.
  2. Post-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment available to F-1 students after completing their course of study.
  3. 24 Month STEM Extension: Students enrolled in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) courses can a 24-month extension after their initial Post-Completion OPT authorization.

Bachelor of Science in Astrophysics

As an Astrophysics major, you’ll study the formation of the universe and the behavior and life cycles of stars, planets and galaxies. You’ll focus on scientific investigation, laboratory experience and research opportunities to give you hands-on experience in the field of astrophysics.

You’ll start by taking core courses that align with the standard Physics major. The program is designed with flexibility so that you can focus on instrumentation, observational data analysis, or theoretical/computational work by choosing appropriate elective courses.

Study communication in the context of popular culture, the corporate world, interpersonal relationships and new media with a master’s degree in Communication and Media. Develop diverse areas of interest while focusing on a specific content area with an optional concentration in Interpersonal Communication, Media and Cinema Studies, Multicultural Communication or Organizational Communication. You’ll master the tools and frameworks to critically examine and resolve real-life communication issues.

Organizational Communication
The Organizational Communication concentration focuses on communication challenges specific to business and organizational settings. It helps students to understand and manage the broad communication processes within organizations while enabling them to develop their individual skills as communicators.

This concentration will be of interest to professionals in corporate and nonprofit settings, particularly those who manage employees or have responsibilities for personnel issues.

The World Language Education (WLE) program integrates education and language courses. Your foreign language education degree will prepare you to teach kindergarten through 12th grade in a variety of urban and suburban education settings, including public and private schools.

As part of this program, you will take language courses from the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences and education courses from the College of Education. You will earn a BA from the College of Education, and concentrations are offered in Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese and Spanish.

The tools and methods of Applied Mathematics are in demand wherever quantitative analysis is used for strategic decision-making. The MS in Applied Mathematics gives you the expertise you need to use those tools and methods in business, industry or government.

Mathematical Finance Concentration
The Mathematical Finance concentration is a track for mathematically-inclined students who would like to pursue a quantitative career in Finance. The coursework focuses on the theoretical foundations of Finance as well as the concrete application of financial modeling, using sophisticated tools and techniques such as stochastic differential equations, copulas and extreme value theory. Students completing this concentration will be well-equipped to work as quantitative analysts.

In the English program, you’ll study the major authors, works, genres and literary movements in the British and American traditions, approaching these texts both analytically and historically. As an English major, you’ll develop your skills in analysis, interpretation and writing by studying British and American literatures, as well as important works in English from around the world.

Our program provides English majors with a well-rounded education where you’ll develop critical and creative thinking skills by examining texts analytically, historically and from multiple points of view. You’ll also develop a unique voice, express yourself clearly in speaking and writing, and become an articulate interpreter and contributor to your culture.

The industrial design degree program will teach you how to hone your aesthetic design skills in order to develop prototypes for consumer and industrial products. You’ll take technical and mathematics courses from which you will learn analytical competence needed to successfully develop your prototyping ability.

As an Industrial Design major, you will become a member of DePaul’s makerspace community and work alongside award-winning faculty in the Idea Realization Lab (IRL) or IRL2 — DePaul’s interdisciplinary 4,500-square-foot campus makerspaces (located on the Loop and Lincoln Park campuses, respectively). In this community, you will learn to design within the constraints of what is practical and possible through the use of several rapid prototyping technologies.

As part of the Grace School of Applied Diplomacy at DePaul, our Master of Applied Diplomacy program unites traditional and non-traditional approaches to the field of diplomacy. Here, we know that the work of diplomacy is not limited to members of the foreign service, but practiced by members of non-governmental organizations, business people, scientists, and community organizers.

Global Public Health
The Diplomacy and Global Public Health concentration provides students with a foundation for applying the tools and understanding of diplomatic practices to mediation, conflict resolution, advocacy and leadership in the field of international public health. You can graduate with a State of Illinois license to teach designated subject-area content (listed below).
