The Bachelor of Music: Performance concentration is designed to prepare music majors for professional performance careers, private studio teaching and/or the pursuit of further academic study.

Computer engineering focuses on system, software and hardware aspects of computing, and includes programming and software engineering. Students learn about electronics, logic design, computer design and architecture, microprocessors, design automation, operating systems, and software engineering. Computer engineer's career opportunities are limitless and include working in the computer industry or with companies that integrate computers into more complex products.

The Bachelor of Science in Medical Biology is a rigorous, streamlined, pre-professional program unique in Southeast Florida that will enable students to pursue competitive professional training programs in the health sciences. This program is tailored for students who seek entrance into top-tier schools in the fields of medicine, veterinary science, pharmacology, and more.  

Students pursuing a master’s or a doctoral degree in Biomedical Sciences, Neuroscience, or Psychology, including those at FAU, will also find the B.S. in Medical Biology an attractive path.

Students majoring in Medical Biology will benefit from a challenging, highly-structured course plan designed to fulfill the prerequisites of medically-focused programs through pre-selected core and elective courses that will prepare students for professional entrance exams, moving students one step closer to their academic and professional goals. In addition to the robust coursework, students will have the opportunity to actively participate in all phases of research alongside world-class researchers – from the planning and execution of an experiment to the analysis and dissemination of the results, in the areas of biology, chemistry, neuroscience, and biomedical science

The major in Interdisciplinary Studies: Arts and Humanities is appropriate for students who wish to design a program of study that spans a broad range of disciplines. The student who wishes to pursue this major should contact the Office of Student Academic Services for advising. Designed to develop and prepare the business leaders of tomorrow to tackle the challenges of the global business environment, the major in Management has two tracks: Leadership and Applied Management, and Entrepreneurship.

Students in the Leadership track have opportunities to advance in human resources and management with various levels of responsibility building successful teams while managing an increasingly complex business environment. Successful leaders develop the strategies, plans, procedures, and policies that guide a business team in the short and long term. Successful leaders do so by coordinating human, financial, and material assets to achieve organizational objectives.

Students in the Entrepreneurship track receive mentoring and develop the skills they need to start their own business or work in a business startup. Entrepreneurs are at the heart of job growth. Students with the intentions of one day leading their own business will benefit from this quality program. In addition, students have numerous resources available on campus such as the Adams Center For Entrepreneurship and the Research Park at FAU to assist them with a start-up. Both tracks are designed to permit a dual major or minor in a targeted area of interest.

The department offers thesis and non-thesis options at the master's level. Students may specialize in several areas: telecommunications; digital signal processing; systems and robotics, including control systems and machine vision; electromagnetics and RF, antennas, microwave systems, EMC/EMI and HF RF circuit design; alternative energy systems, including photovoltaic and fuel cell systems; bioengineering; neural networks; and optics and photonics.

FAU's Sociology major is distinctive as a flexible skills based major. The major lets students choose a plan of study that suits their career interests, focuses on topics that intrigue and challenge them, and helps them to build their own "sociological tool kit" for addressing personal and social problems. Every course includes coverage of core skills and basic knowledge of the discipline in addition to material that is distinctive to the topics. Because of how the major is designed, students who major in Sociology will have many opportunities to develop the skills necessary to ask and answer questions about social behavior, social structure and change, and social trends as well as to read skillfully, write and speak clearly and conduct effective presentations.

The Bachelor of Arts with major in Health Science degree is designed for students interested in pursuing careers in healthcare-related professions. This degree provides broad-based interdisciplinary training with a core in the basic sciences and requires a concentration in one of the following areas: Geriatrics (Aging Studies), Women’s Health, Public/Global/Environmental Health, Science, and Behavioral and Mental Health.

The program structure enables students to take relevant coursework in various colleges and departments across FAU to broaden their understanding of factors that both positively and negatively impact the healthcare system, patients and practitioners. In addition, through the Health Science course sequence, students learn how professionals from various fields of practice (medicine, pharmacy, social work, nursing, etc.) interact in a collaborative manner. Students also have access to clinical observation opportunities and other extracurricular activities (lab experiences, internships, research).

Students are expected to make continued progress in their development as actors and artists. Retention is earned by the faculty’s evaluation of the student’s work, commitment, progress and personal growth.

BFA students can audition their freshmen year, and are eligible for all five school year productions and both Summer Rep productions.

In Multimedia Studies, the BA degree sequence in FILM, VIDEO, AND NEW MEDIA attracts diverse and creative students who crave an opportunity to engage with the rapidly evolving media world. From its origins as an interdepartmental program in film studies, the program in the School of Communication and Multimedia Studies is currently home to roughly ___ majors. FVNM coursework immerses students in a dynamic curriculum rooted in a liberal arts education, which emphasizes the links between media history, analysis and creative practice. Our majors study the relationships between different forms of cinema and digital media through a well-rounded sequence that spans film studies, media studies, digital film production, and computer animation. FVNM graduates are critically sophisticated, historically knowledgeable, and technologically proficient.

The research interests of accomplished scholars and creators on our faculty shape our upper-level curriculum’s coverage of commercial, independent, and experimental media, through courses in documentary, activist media, world cinema, queer media, digital cultures, interactive and web-based media, animation, and video games. Our students are encouraged to craft individual paths through rigorous scholarly work and hands-on practical training, preparing them to thrive in media-related sectors, including arts and entertainment, education, and technology.
