Biomedical Engineering is a broad and emerging field that impacts drug delivery, surgery, diagnosis, prevention and treatment. Students successfully completing the Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering (MSBioMedE) degree program will be prepared for professional careers in businesses related to medical diagnostics, prosthetic devices, and neural and other implants; the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries; and consulting in health-related fields, as well as other positions in industry, commerce, education, and government. Students will also be prepared to continue their formal education at the PhD level in a variety of science and engineering disciplines and at the MD level in certain cases.

The Biomedical Engineering program is unique by allowing a vast choice of electives including biological sciences, biomedical sciences, complex systems and brain sciences, and nursing in addition to three core courses.

The Biochemistry B.S. Program is designed for students pursuing careers in biochemistry and related disciplines, such as molecular biology, biophysics, and pharmacology. Additionally, premedical students who wish to pursue a research-oriented curriculum might be interested in this program.

The major in Interdisciplinary Studies: Arts and Humanities is appropriate for students who wish to design a program of study that spans a broad range of disciplines. The student who wishes to pursue this major should contact the Office of Student Academic Services for advising. The Commercial Music program offers a comprehensive undergraduate curriculum to help students develop specific skills for a professional career in the music industry. Hoot/Wisdom Records L.L.C. is Florida Atlantic University’s official record label. Administered by the Commercial Music program, the label provides students with practical experience in the production, marketing, and distribution of sound recordings.

The Commercial Music Composition concentration provides majors with skills and experience in composing, arranging, producing, and recording music for a variety of applications, including film, television, and digital media. 

The Hospitality & Tourism Management program prepares students for management positions in multiple segments of the world’s largest service industry. Upon completion, graduates assume various professional roles in a wide variety of industry venues including: resorts, hotels, restaurants, private clubs, meeting and event planning corporations, destination marketing organizations, convention centers, conference centers, cruise lines, casinos, theme parks, auto rental agencies, sports facilities and arenas, spas, entertainment venues and theaters, and vacation ownership or fractional ownership operations.

 The Department of Exercise Science & Health Promotion (ESHP) emphasizes technology-based instruction to improve critical thinking skills necessary for health-related professions while publishing molecular and behavioral based research that informs lifestyle choices that reduce the occurrence and severity of chronic disease.

The Bachelor of Arts with major in Health Science degree is designed for students interested in pursuing careers in healthcare-related professions. This degree provides broad-based interdisciplinary training with a core in the basic sciences and requires a concentration in one of the following areas: Geriatrics (Aging Studies), Women’s Health, Public/Global/Environmental Health, Science and Behavioral and Mental Health.

The program structure enables students to take relevant coursework in various colleges and departments across FAU to broaden their understanding of factors that both positively and negatively impact the healthcare system, patients and practitioners. In addition, through the Health Science course sequence, students learn how professionals from various fields of practice (medicine, pharmacy, social work, nursing, etc.) interact in a collaborative manner. Students also have access to clinical observation opportunities and other extracurricular activities (lab experiences, internships, research).

Management Information Systems (MIS) is a discipline and a profession that brings information and communication technologies to businesses and society. By applying information and communications technologies and systems, MIS solves real business problems and gives competitive advantage to firms. MIS focuses on the concepts and tools necessary for analyzing, designing, planning, developing, and managing organizational information resources.

MIS emphasizes management and looks at applications and technological products as part of a system. MIS graduates have a systems perspective and business processes in mind. They are service oriented and able to communicate client needs to IT staff. They are educated in people skills, project management, and teamwork experience. Although entry level positions are similar to those earned by computer science graduates, MIS graduates are more likely to move into managerial positions overseeing and directing the design and development of systems solutions for companies.

The Master of Science with Major in Computer Science (MSCS) prepares students for careers in industry in various positions such as Software Engineer, Software Architect, Big Data Engineer, Data Analytics Engineer, Database Engineer, Mobile Application Engineer, Cybersecurity Engineer, and Senior Application Developer. Students in the program build a foundational background in computer science theory, software development and computer systems, and are exposed to the latest advances in various areas including machine learning, artificial intelligence, data science, advanced programming methodologies, database systems, cybersecurity, cryptography, wireless communications and networking, IoT and smart systems, bioinformatics, multimedia systems, mobile application development, and healthcare informatics.
