The Bachelor of Science with Major in Data Science and Analytics (BSDSA) is a multi-college, interdisciplinary program jointly administered by the Department of Mathematical Sciences in the Charles E. Schmidt College of Science, the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) in the College of Engineering and Computer Science, the Department of Information Technology and Operations Management {ITOM) in the College of Business, the Department of Political Science in the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters and the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice in the College of Social Work and Criminal Justice.

This program aims to prepare students with the essential skill sets across disciplines needed for data-driven applications in industry, business and government. The Department of Electrical Engineering & Computer Science (EECS) offers a concentration in Data Science and Engineering (DSE).

What is Data Science and Engineering About?
Data science is effective in tackling many real-world problems and is being used to make intelligent and informed decisions in many industries such as medicine and healthcare, finance, retail, transportation, manufacturing, media and entertainment. Data science and engineering involves the design and application of tools and methodologies for uncovering patterns in data and making actionable predictions. This program builds a strong background in computational and mathematical foundation of data science, programming, and data structures and algorithm analysis. Students can choose from a rich selection of courses including machine learning, artificial intelligence, and deep learning. They will be prepared not only to use the tools for data science but also to develop new mechanisms and algorithms. Graduates of the program will be well prepared to enter the high demand workforce under exciting roles such as Data Scientist, Data Science Application Developer, Data Science Programmer, Data Analytics Scientist, Machine Learning Scientist, Market Analyst and others.

Computer science is the study of computers, computer software, and computational systems including their theory, design, development, and application. Principal areas within computer science include Internet and web programming, mobile system development, data mining, and machine learning, social networks, video game development, human-computer interaction, artificial intelligence, database systems, programming languages, software engineering, and theory of computing. Computer science incorporates concepts from mathematics, engineering, and psychology.

The Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science is a program for students who are interested in design and development of computer software.

The Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning (BURP) is a professional program that provides students with the knowledge base and analytical and design skills to address issues that affect the quality of life in neighborhoods, suburbs, cities, and regions. The curriculum consists of planning lecture courses, studio/lab courses, and professional practice courses that give students real-world planning experience. Students select courses from a wide variety of suggested electives that allow them to focus on topics of particular interest. Graduates of the program qualify for positions in a variety of public and private organizations, including local and state planning departments, nonprofit organizations, and private sector planning and development firms.

The Department of Ocean and Mechanical Engineering offers an extensive Master of Science degree program in Ocean Engineering with the aim of preparing individuals for engineering challenges to working in the ocean environment.

Specialization in specific Ocean Engineering programs is offered through in-depth studies in the areas of Acoustics, Signal processing, Materials and Corrosion, Marine structures, Marine Hydrodynamics and Autonomous Underwater Vehicles.

The Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatics Engineering offers a program of study leading to the degree of Master of Science with Major in Civil Engineering (MSCV). The mission of the program is to meet the advanced civil engineering educational needs of recent graduates of undergraduate engineering degree programs, practicing engineers and those non-engineering professionals wishing to redirect their career paths. Graduates of the program possess the following attributes or educational outcomes:

• Knowledge in civil engineering and related subjects significantly beyond the baccalaureate level.
• Ability to independently conduct research or a significant practice-oriented project in civil engineering.
• Ability to communicate their ideas and results in written, oral, and graphical forms.

These educational outcomes result from successful completion of a well-planned, rigorous set of courses and a major capstone experience (either a thesis or practice-oriented project). Students wishing to continue their education but not pursue a formal academic degree are welcome to take graduate courses with the appropriate technical preparation.

FAU's Sociology major is distinctive as a flexible skills based major. The major lets students choose a plan of study that suits their career interests, focuses on topics that intrigue and challenge them, and helps them to build their own "sociological tool kit" for addressing personal and social problems. Every course includes coverage of core skills and basic knowledge of the discipline in addition to material that is distinctive to the topics. Because of how the major is designed, students who major in Sociology will have many opportunities to develop the skills necessary to ask and answer questions about social behavior, social structure and change, and social trends as well as to read skillfully, write and speak clearly and conduct effective presentations.

The Bachelor of Music: Performance concentration is designed to prepare music majors for professional performance careers, private studio teaching and/or the pursuit of further academic study.

The major in Interdisciplinary Studies: Arts and Humanities is appropriate for students who wish to design a program of study that spans a broad range of disciplines. The student who wishes to pursue this major should contact the Office of Student Academic Services for advising. The Master of Science with Major in Computer Engineering (MSCE) prepares students for careers in industry in various positions such as IoT Engineer, Computer Systems Engineer/Architect, Cryptographic Engineer, Network Engineer, Hardware Engineer, Embedded Systems Engineer, Application Engineer, Wireless Communications Engineer, Digital Design Engineer, and Robotics Engineer. Students in the program build a foundational background in computer architecture and design, software development and computer systems, and are exposed to the latest advances in various areas including embedded systems, structured VLSI design, design of digital systems, cryptography, computer networks, wireless communications, vehicular networks, IoT and smart systems, parallel and distributed systems, medical information systems, machine learning, artificial intelligence, robotics, and signal processing.
