Management Information Systems (MIS) is a discipline and a profession that brings information and communication technologies to businesses and society. By applying information and communications technologies and systems, MIS solves real business problems and gives competitive advantage to firms. MIS emphasizes management and looks at applications and technological products as part of a system. MIS graduates have a systems perspective and business processes in mind. They are service oriented and able to communicate client needs to IT staff. They are educated in people skills, project management, and teamwork experience. Although entry level positions are similar to those earned by computer science graduates, MIS graduates are more likely to move into managerial positions overseeing and directing the design and development of systems solutions for companies.

We have all become keenly aware of the rising frequency of threats from both man-made and natural disasters that include natural disasters such as Hurricanes Irma and Michael and the Camp fire in California, to terrorist attacks and events such as  September 11, 2001 in New York, the Boston Marathon Bombing, and the Orlando nightclub shooting.

That means a day-in-the-life of a Public Safety professional looks vastly different than it did even a few decades ago, which gives you virtually limitless opportunities to make a real impact. Here’s a quick look at the wide variety of Public Safety careers you could choose to pursue after graduation.

The BPSA degree in the School of Public Administration is ideal for professionals and pre-professionals interested in police, fire, and disaster response practice and administration. The 18 core credit hours and 60 total credit hours provide:

• A professional/ pre-professional degree program for students entering the fields of law enforcement, homeland security, and disaster response;
• Interested students a foundation for continuing in a professionally focused graduate program; and
• An interdisciplinary degree that allows students to combine key areas from several disciplines to graduate with a pre-professional degree.

For Students interested in law enforcement, terrorism-response, administrative application of the law and corrections, we recommended the Law Enforcement & Corrections concentration.

In the liberal arts tradition, the FAU Bachelor of Arts in Theatre curriculum is intended for students seeking a broad exposure to the study of theatre and drama. It provides students with a broad range of valuable skills.

Through voice, movement and dance classes, students learn to control their voice’s pitch, projection, breathing, and articulation. Their dance and movement classes teach them to become poised, self-assured, natural, and expressive onstage.

Classes such as Dramatic Theory & Genre and Script Analysis encourage students to listen and learn, observe and concentrate with a heightened sense of awareness. The theatre environment can be quite competitive and they’ll learn to solve problems using critical thought processes in creative ways. The B.A. in Theatre is a program well-suited for those who may eventually want to pursue graduate studies in Theatre.

The Commercial Music program offers a comprehensive undergraduate curriculum to help students develop specific skills for a professional career in the music industry. Hoot/Wisdom Records L.L.C. is Florida Atlantic University’s official record label. Administered by the Commercial Music program, the label provides students with practical experience in the production, marketing, and distribution of sound recordings.

The Department of Psychology is represented by faculty at three FAU campuses (Boca Raton, Davie and Jupiter). The Department of Psychology maintains a research-intensive graduate program, offering the Doctor of Philosophy degree in Experimental Psychology and Master of Arts degree in Psychology. We service over 2100 undergraduate majors as well. Our award-winning and internationally renowned faculty conduct research in four core areas of Psychology: Cognitive & Cognitive Neuroscience, Developmental, Neuroscience, and Social/Personality Psychology. The major in Interdisciplinary Studies: Women, Gender and Sexuality was designed for students who wish to study broadly in the Women, Gender and Sexuality rather than concentrate on a particular discipline. The knowledge and intellectual training provided are excellent preparation for careers in public service etc. 

The Health Administration major provides students with a university education that promotes personal and professional growth as well as concentrated awareness of health systems and their effects on society. Flexibility in course selection empowers and encourages students to study in a program that will not only sharpen their analytical skills and expose them to a new way of thinking, but will also develop their leadership skills and reinforce social responsibility as citizens and future health administrators.

The rising cost of healthcare provides a problem with great opportunities for graduates of Health Administration who can demonstrate affective business solutions. Graduates have a choice of working in hospital administration, mental health facilities, medical group practices and many others.

The degree in Health Administration - Bachelor of Health Services (BHS) - offered through the Department of Management at FAU, College of Business, is an Associate Member of the Association of University Programs in Health Administration ( AUPHA.org). The program is also fully accredited by The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).

The Department of Physics offers undergraduate programs leading to both BS and BA degrees. The Bachelor of Arts program offers a specialization in physics to students desiring a general cultural education. Flexibility in electives also makes it possible to combine a physics major with a concentration in other areas such as acoustics, materials science, oceanography, premedical science, biology, chemistry, computer science, mathematics, or business.
