Teaching
The mathematics department at Lipscomb University prepares you to be an excellent teacher who is both mathematically sound and pedagogically proficient. We work closely with Lipscomb’s nationally ranked College of Education to ensure that you are trained and up to date in the latest educational standards and trends. The extra hours of foreign language required for a B.A. make for a highly marketable degree due to the diversity of Davidson County and the surrounding areas.

We have a very high placement rate for employment of our graduates. Recent graduates have been recognized for excellence in teaching. Two have been named Teacher of the Year in Metro Nashville within the last five years.

You'll get a high quality education in medical surgical courses and all specialty areas including: critical care, obstetrics, pediatrics, mental health and community-based learning. And our graduates are successful — in fact, 100 percent of nurses who graduated from our program are working in their health care careers. Research shows 79.6 percent of employers want BSN-prepared nurses. And lower mortality rates, fewer medication errors and positive outcomes are an outcome of nurses prepared at the baccalaureate level (AACN, Oct. 2017).

We approach the study of philosophy by reading the classics and by wrestling with ideas and reasons in civil debate with one another. What makes an action right as opposed to wrong?  What is knowledge, and can we have it?  Does anything at all make life meaningful?  How can an all-powerful and good God allow evil to occur?  What distinguishes cogent from fallacious reasoning, and how can we best analyze and assess arguments?  What is the nature of truth, beauty, goodness, and freedom?   

You'll study the work of the greatest minds in Western history. And you'll learn to identify and evaluate the fundamental assumptions that shape how we think about the world — and ourselves. Use the skills you develop in philosophy to pursue internships and job opportunities in a variety of fields, including government, politics, and history. Or continue onto law school, business school, or graduate school to hone your focus even further.

Explore the dimensions of a boundless discipline. Study some of the physical world’s most inscrutable mysteries and examine the laws of motion and energy inherent in everything we do. Our physics program will feed your curiosity and sharpen your analytical abilities.

Pretty deep language for something that absolutely rules daily life (like the fact we walk on the ground rather than float hither and yon). Let us ready you to be a middle or high school teacher. As a biology teaching major, you'll get to network during clinical practice classes, which will set you up for employment by graduation. You'll have the chance to go to the Tennessee Science Teachers Association meeting or the National Science Teachers Association meeting. You'll get to learn about teaching ideas, influential research and network with other science teachers from across the U.S.

Investigate the workings of the natural world, building a deeper understanding of bioscience and a deeper appreciation for the processes of life. Assess the theoretical implications of the field from a philosophical perspective while remaining grounded in scientific knowledge.

Explore the complex relationships between ethics and biology. You’ll debate about subjects like informed consent, medical confidentiality, and allocation of resources, as well as hot topics like euthanasia and abortion. Consider the set of moral principles that medical professionals are faced with every day.

You’ll work with the best and brightest of our biology, chemistry and philosophy faculty to gain a comprehensive knowledge of the history, psychology, theory and science that revolves around the field of bioscience, specifically as it relates to health and medicine. Now more than ever, there is a need for professionals who are just, wherever they may be.  We know you want to change the world. So we've created a program to help you build a foundation in justice so you can do exactly that. We know legal change is one of the best ways to effect social change, so we'll make sure you gain a strong understanding of America's legal system. Work with a prominent civil rights attorney in Tuskegee, Alabama. You'll visit Washington, D.C. for an introduction of American law. Learn from real-life experiences with an internship. Take a semester abroad. And later, you'll even travel to five European countries as you learn about law in the global community.
