Teaching (Chemistry - Teaching)
If the teaching field is your path, you'll gain an excellent background in chemistry as well as the educational knowledge you need to prepare for your own students. Chemistry teachers are in demand. Our students are regularly recruited. They move on to be educational administrators - headmasters, principals, and assistant principals.

The truth is that history graduates can be found in any career where superior analytic training and good writing and communication skills are needed. The economy of today requires versatile, nimble minds who can adjust to the constantly changing landscapes of the global economy and the shuffle that occurs within industries and places.  History majors are ideal for this world as they have faced the challenges of the past with the great writers, ideas, figures, and events. Graduates gain perspective through their studies and the mentoring of our highly-regarded faculty.

We have pledged ourselves to making history accessible to all Lipscomb students. The Great Ideas in History curriculum serves our students' need to know the contours of progress and culture. Our 36-hour major allows students to finish in three years or to add the history major to their primary field of study.

Explore your creative potential by broadening your skills in various art forms. In our studio art program, you’ll be exposed to mediums such as painting, drawing, sculpture, videography, and printmaking. With a wide range of artistic knowledge, you’ll be prepared to influence and better the world through art.

You’ll learn from faculty who have a wealth of experience in artistic mediums and international exhibitions, in an environment that integrates faith and work. Gain 24/7 access to our studios, meet with exhibiting artists in our on-campus John C. Hutcheson gallery and during master classes, and exhibit your own art at our off-campus, student-run Open gallery in downtown Nashville.

Professional Chemistry
Want to be a chemist ? This path is for you. You'll go beyond the basic principles of chemistry, learning the complex fields of organic, inorganic, physical and analytical chemistry. Plus, you'll have special courses designed for research and intensive specialized and integrated labs.

You're passionate about improving life for all, so join those who are doing that.  You'll have a surplus of opportunities to serve, work and lead within our biochemistry program. Our graduates are in demand in every facet of chemistry and biochemistry. And that includes the medical, industrial, governmental, educational and nonprofit sectors. By the way, more than 50 percent of our biochemistry graduates have earned doctorate degrees. So get started with us — choose the degree path that is right for you. Our experienced faculty will cultivate you. The success of our graduates proves that.

There's no capstone required for our biochemistry majors. But most of our students take part in undergraduate research at Lipscomb, at major research universities — or both. It's common for graduates of both of our biochemistry degrees to get into recognized research universities and medical schools across the U.S. Whatever your goals are, we'll help you get there.

As the ability to converse in Spanish is increasing in importance in the U.S. and worldwide, it's no secret that with a background in this language, you'll be better equipped for your profession — and for service. While studying here and abroad, you'll learn to think more critically — and to act with compassion. You'll learn to know and care about your neighbor across the street and the one across the world.

Our Spanish Teaching degree combines the best of two worlds: our respected education program and a course of study involving language, geography and literature. We teach our classes in Spanish to prepare you for a career where you, as a teacher, will do the same.

Whether it's your love for theatre, professional ambition, or calling to teach that has brought you here, we will guide you into becoming a well-rounded theatre practitioner committed to artistic and academic excellence. After all, our world needs smart, innovative artists. We start with foundational instruction on all theatrical aspects that streamline into more specific courses each year. You'll take part in departmental productions and in the local Nashville theatre scene. Our professional faculty will connect you to outside opportunities. You'll build community in our tight-knit department, where support from the relationships you gain will continue strengthening your career even after graduation day.

We all want to know the answers to the so-called “big questions” of life. So seek them in an intellectually satisfying way at Lipscomb. There are no gimmicks or trends here.  We're following the time-honored, Socratic method of pursuing truth — and doing so in dialogue with the Christian intellectual tradition.

We approach the study of philosophy by reading the classics and by wrestling with ideas and reasons in civil debate with one another. What makes an action right as opposed to wrong?  What is knowledge, and can we have it?  Does anything at all make life meaningful?  How can an all-powerful and good God allow evil to occur?  What distinguishes cogent from fallacious reasoning, and how can we best analyze and assess arguments?  What is the nature of truth, beauty, goodness, and freedom?   

You'll study the work of the greatest minds in Western history. And you'll learn to identify and evaluate the fundamental assumptions that shape how we think about the world — and ourselves. Use the skills you develop in philosophy to pursue internships and job opportunities in a variety of fields, including government, politics, and history. Or continue onto law school, business school, or graduate school to hone your focus even further.

We developed our applied biochemistry curriculum to give you exactly what you need to excel. Our dedicated faculty will prepare you for admission to competitive health-related professional schools — without advanced mathematics. Many of our applied biochemistry graduates are flourishing medical doctors, dentists, pharmacists or physician assistants. Others have found success in industry or graduate study within chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology or microbiology.
