The Health and Physical Education teaching degree prepares students to deliver quality health education and physical education to young people in grades K-12. The courses were all designed to follow best practices for preparing excellent teachers who are passionate about the health and fitness of our youth.

We've been doing experiential learning in the sciences since before it was cool. And with guidance from our expert faculty, you'll take advantage of rich opportunities to investigate the basis for life. We will help you prepare for a career in the life sciences: think clinical or biomedical research, or other graduate programs in the allied health professions. You'll face challenges in this program as you learn the cellular mechanisms underlying human physiology, genetics and disease.  You won't be alone. Scripture tells us we are “fearfully and wonderfully” made—and few know that better than a physicist! Pretty deep language for something that absolutely rules daily life (like the fact we walk on the ground rather than float hither and yon). Investigate the principles of physics with a high regard for creation’s God-given wonder, complexity, and amazing power.

We all want to know the answers to the so-called “big questions” of life. So seek them in an intellectually satisfying way at Lipscomb. There are no gimmicks or trends here.  We're following the time-honored, Socratic method of pursuing truth — and doing so in dialogue with the Christian intellectual tradition.

We approach the study of philosophy by reading the classics and by wrestling with ideas and reasons in civil debate with one another. What makes an action right as opposed to wrong?  What is knowledge, and can we have it?  Does anything at all make life meaningful?  How can an all-powerful and good God allow evil to occur?  What distinguishes cogent from fallacious reasoning, and how can we best analyze and assess arguments?  What is the nature of truth, beauty, goodness, and freedom?   

You'll study the work of the greatest minds in Western history. And you'll learn to identify and evaluate the fundamental assumptions that shape how we think about the world — and ourselves. Use the skills you develop in philosophy to pursue internships and job opportunities in a variety of fields, including government, politics, and history. Or continue onto law school, business school, or graduate school to hone your focus even further.

The political science program is dedicated to producing wise leaders and responsible citizens. Politics is society in action as it makes choices and shapes priorities. Our students enjoy the chance to witness and participate in local and state government here in Nashville, Tennessee's state capital. The Washington Seminar allows them an inside look at our national policy process and on-site visits to places no tourist goes. Many students use their Global Learning semester abroad to travel and study internationally, which they integrate into our International Affairs major.

We have pledged ourselves to making politics and citizenship accessible to all Lipscomb students. The Great Ideas in Politics general education curriculum serves our students' need to know the ideas and habits of citizenship. Our 39-hour major allows students to finish in three years or to add the political science major to their primary field of study.

We're always looking at what's on the horizon in health care so that you'll be ready to adapt to technological advances in nursing. Our Christ-centered, professional faculty have dedicated their lives to equipping you. You'll get a high quality education in medical surgical courses and all specialty areas including: critical care, obstetrics, pediatrics, mental health and community-based learning. And our graduates are successful — in fact, 100 percent of nurses who graduated from our program are working in their health care careers. Research shows 79.6 percent of employers want BSN-prepared nurses. And lower mortality rates, fewer medication errors and positive outcomes are an outcome of nurses prepared at the baccalaureate level (AACN, Oct. 2017).

So take advantage of the convenience of gaining experience and connections right here in the health care capital of the U.S. “Practice before you practice" in our on-campus, state-of-the-art high fidelity patient simulation lab. You'll be well-prepared when you get the chance to serve on medical mission trips at home and abroad. 

Contribute your vision to the world. Learn the foundations and practice of animation, from character design to top-end computer graphics and 3D graphics. At Lipscomb, you'll grow your creative skills under some of the most prominent animators in the U.S., including Tom Bancroft and John Pomeroy. You’ll connect with and learn from experts in Maya software, the industry standard in computer graphics and CGI effects. You’ll even have the option of taking on opportunities in Los Angeles — our department’s Los Angeles internship program as well as a yearly trip to work at an animation studio there.

Our Spanish Teaching degree combines the best of two worlds: our respected education program and a course of study involving language, geography and literature. We teach our classes in Spanish to prepare you for a career where you, as a teacher, will do the same.

Sure, two plus two is four. But if you’re here, you’re probably interested in exploring what’s beyond math’s basics. And your options are endless: statistics, calculus, geometry, abstract algebra, topology, differential equations and many more!
