Let us ready you to be a middle or high school teacher. As a biology teaching major, you'll get to network during clinical practice classes, which will set you up for employment by graduation. You'll have the chance to go to the Tennessee Science Teachers Association meeting or the National Science Teachers Association meeting. You'll get to learn about teaching ideas, influential research and network with other science teachers from across the U.S.

Biology teaching majors receive the same core as biology (general) majors. A special course developed only for those pursuing teaching is Methods of Teaching Biology. This is a 3 hour course usually taken with Clinical Practice II, which combines content with pedagogy. In this course, students learn not only their craft but also have time structured for edTPA, safety in the classroom and grant writing.

Business Emphasis (Chemistry major - applied)

In fact, the U.S. Department of Labor projects that the employment growth of social workers will grow 16 percent from 2016 to 2026. According to the Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration, social workers are the nation’s largest group of mental health providers. And, over 40 percent of all disaster mental health volunteers trained by the Red Cross are social workers.

Green Chemistry Emphasis (Chemistry major - applied)
Our green chemistry emphasis is one of the few curricula in the U.S. at the undergraduate level. With it you’ll find new, safer, and more efficient ways to perform chemical reactions.

Sure, two plus two is four. But if you’re here, you’re probably interested in exploring what’s beyond math’s basics. And your options are endless: statistics, calculus, geometry, abstract algebra, topology, differential equations and many more! Dig deeper into the incredible body of knowledge that constitutes mathematics by earning your degree in the field.

Forensic Science Emphasis (Chemistry major - applied)
You'll be well connected to alumni in the field of forensic sciences. What we teach will qualify you to work in a crime laboratory, or get a job in drug testing. The International Affairs major is the perfect way to maximize your semester abroad. Your 12 Global Learning credits will be applied to the major, fulfilling a core part of the coursework for this major. International Affairs integrates your language training, travels, and Lipscomb education. Further courses in political science and history will complement your experiences and broaden your knowledge base.

If you choose the teaching route, you will be prepared in the areas of classroom management and intercultural competence along with literature, writing, cultural studies and communication core studies. Research shows 79.6 percent of employers want BSN-prepared nurses. And lower mortality rates, fewer medication errors and positive outcomes are an outcome of nurses prepared at the baccalaureate level (AACN, Oct. 2017).
