We have pledged ourselves to making history accessible to all Lipscomb students. The Great Ideas in History curriculum serves our students' need to know the contours of progress and culture. Our 36-hour major allows students to finish in three years or to add the history major to their primary field of study.

You'll have opportunities for experiential learning, including managerial finance, international economics, portfolio management. In our Financial Markets Lab, you'll learn to use Bloomberg Terminals to analyze financial data and metrics. You'll even have a keycard to access the lab at any time.

You'll have internship and study abroad opportunities. You'll be part of the Lipscomb team that competes against other universities in the TVA Investment Challenge. You and your team will manage a portfolio of securities on TVA's behalf. Each team competing will be responsible for security selection, portfolio balancing and other fund management decisions. You'll have the chance to go to the Tennessee Science Teachers Association meeting or the National Science Teachers Association meeting. If you choose the teaching route, you will be prepared in the areas of classroom management and intercultural competence along with literature, writing, cultural studies and communication core studies. A diverse set of local schools will welcome you in and provide you with hands-on learning opportunities.

The coursework in the English Teaching program is designed to provide you with foundational literary and educational concepts, practical field experience, and a broad understanding of textual genres, historical periods, composition/rhetoric, and the cultural significance of relevant writers and their texts. The program also allows you to learn from on-site teachers in a diverse range of public and private schools in the Nashville area. The specific content areas for literature include surveys of American, British, and world literatures as well as more narrowly focused seminars, which prepare you for the required content you will be teaching.
