Journalism is a challenging and fast-paced career. Given the flood of information that surrounds us, the public looks to skilled journalists to provide news and commentary that informs civic dialogue and to report the latest trends and events in politics, government, culture, entertainment, sports, technology, and much more. The Journalism major trains students to be strong writers, a skill that can be applied to jobs in many other fields as well.
The 120-credit Bachelor of Fine Arts in Journalism provides you with an understanding of the increasingly complex task of reporting, writing, editing and delivering the news in a multimedia environment. Our program develops practical knowledge and conceptual foundations for work in the varied forms of print, broadcast and online journalism as well as for graduate study in journalism and related fields. Journalism students are strongly encouraged to select a minor in another field, such as a science, social science or business to better prepare them to report in a specific content area with deeper understanding.

Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.
It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.

Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling
Mental health counselors work with individuals, families, and groups to address and treat mental and emotional disorders and to promote mental health. They are trained in a variety of therapeutic techniques used to address issues such as depression, anxiety, addiction and substance abuse, suicidal impulses, stress, trauma, low self-esteem, and grief. They also help with job and career concerns, educational decisions, mental and emotional health issues, and relationship problems. In addition, they may be involved in community outreach, advocacy, and mediation activities. Some specialize in delivering mental health services for the elderly. Mental health counselors often work closely with other mental health specialists, such as psychiatrists, psychologists, clinical social workers, psychiatric nurses, and school counselors. Mental health counselors work in community health and social service organizations, day treatment programs, outpatient mental health clinics, hospitals, or private practice.
The 60-credit M.S. in Mental Health Counseling provides students with core knowledge to be effective helpers in a variety of clinical settings. The program covers professional issues and ethics, counseling theories, human development, counseling skills, group work, assessment and career development. Building upon these core content areas, the mental health counseling program focuses specifically on the development of knowledge and skills necessary to work in a variety of clinical settings, such as: foundations of mental health counseling; research; evidence-based practice; program evaluation; psychopathology and psychopharmacology.

The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music Technology, Entrepreneurship & Production (MTEP) is designed to provide professional training for students who aim to succeed as creative entrepreneurs in the music industry. As an art major you will study with professional artists and leading scholars, as well as visiting guest artists from around the world. You will build a solid foundation in drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture and printmaking, while exploring the history and theory of human creativity in courses that range from the arts of the ancient Near East and the Mediterranean to contemporary photography and digital design. Art Foundations are required of all freshmen in the program, where concepts and practices in two- and three-dimensional art forms are examined. As a junior you will choose one or more of the studio arts as your concentration; as a senior you will work with a faculty advisor in preparing a B.F.A. exhibition of works in your chosen art media.

Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences (Clinical Laboratory Sciences)
Clinical Laboratory Scientists are highly skilled professionals who are qualified by passing the national certification examination and licensed by NY State to work in a several departments of a clinical laboratory including hematology, microbiology, immunohematology, chemistry, immunology and molecular diagnostics (CLS generalist). They play a key role in the detection, diagnosis and treatment of diseases and illnesses. Using sophisticated laboratory analyzers, CLS generalists perform tests and analyze cells, blood and other body fluids to detect abnormalities. They are a vital source of diagnostic information to doctors who use the test results to determine and monitor a course of treatment for patients.
The B.S. CLS program and the corresponding MS CLS program, are accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS, 5600 N. River Rd., Suite 720, Rosemont, IL, 60018-5119; 773.714.8880; [email protected]), which is the national accrediting body for CLS programs. The goals of the programs are to exceed the NAACLS specified benchmarks for certification exam pass rate, graduation rate and employment rate. This program integrates a complex level of didactic theoretical and technical instruction. Following successful completion of the CLS didactic courses, students are selected for the practicum by competitively placement into clinical sites contracted with LIU Post- a list of the sites is shown below. Students successfully completing the practicum are eligible to take the ASCP (American Society of Clinical Pathologists) national certification examinations for a CLS generalist. Certification is necessary for employment nation-wide and is required for licensure in New York State. Conferral of the B.S. in Clinical Laboratory Science degree is not contingent upon passing a certification or licensure exam.

Bachelor of Science in Medical Imaging (Radiologic Technology)
LIU Post is one of the few programs in the country that offers entry-level bachelor’s degree in radiologic technology and has been a provider of education in diagnostic imaging since 1973. Radiologic technologists operate x-ray and digital imaging machines, digital mammography equipment, computed tomography (CT scan) machines, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to provide physicians with images of the skeletal system, organs, tissues and other vessels of the body—important diagnostic tests that help doctors detect and treat illness and injury. The B.S. in Radiologic Technology is accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT).
