Overview

LIU Post is one of the few programs in the country that offers entry-level bachelor’s degree in radiologic technology and has been a provider of education in diagnostic imaging since 1973. Radiologic technologists operate x-ray and digital imaging machines, digital mammography equipment, computed tomography (CT scan) machines, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to provide physicians with images of the skeletal system, organs, tissues and other vessels of the body—important diagnostic tests that help doctors detect and treat illness and injury. The B.S. in Radiologic Technology is accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT).

Work Permit USA

Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.

It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.

A student can participate in three types of Optional Practical Training (OPT):

  1. Pre-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment provided to F-1 students before completion of their course of study.
  2. Post-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment available to F-1 students after completing their course of study.
  3. 24 Month STEM Extension: Students enrolled in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) courses can a 24-month extension after their initial Post-Completion OPT authorization.

The Digital Game Design & Development Program at LIU Post offers a project-based curriculum that allows students to focus on developing skills in computer programming, art/graphics or interface/content development while collaborating with others in the cohort on large-scale team projects.

In addition to game development, the program stresses the following elements essential to success in the industry: storyboarding, paper prototyping, usability testing, and project management. Students will be taught how to write grant proposals and approach venture capital to support their work and encouraged to collaborate with business faculty on marketing and disseminating their thesis projects.

Mental health counselors work with individuals, families, and groups to address and treat mental and emotional disorders and to promote mental health. They are trained in a variety of therapeutic techniques used to address issues such as depression, anxiety, addiction and substance abuse, suicidal impulses, stress, trauma, low self-esteem, and grief. They also help with job and career concerns, educational decisions, mental and emotional health issues, and relationship problems. In addition, they may be involved in community outreach, advocacy, and mediation activities. Some specialize in delivering mental health services for the elderly. Mental health counselors often work closely with other mental health specialists, such as psychiatrists, psychologists, clinical social workers, psychiatric nurses, and school counselors. Mental health counselors work in community health and social service organizations, day treatment programs, outpatient mental health clinics, hospitals, or private practice.

The 60-credit M.S. in Mental Health Counseling provides students with core knowledge to be effective helpers in a variety of clinical settings. The program covers professional issues and ethics, counseling theories, human development, counseling skills, group work, assessment and career development. Building upon these core content areas, the mental health counseling program focuses specifically on the development of knowledge and skills necessary to work in a variety of clinical settings, such as: foundations of mental health counseling; research; evidence-based practice; program evaluation; psychopathology and psychopharmacology.

The 120-credit Bachelor of Science in Accountancy is ideal preparation for a career in the fields of accountancy, taxation and business services. Professors with extensive professional experience and top academic credentials lead small classes, interacting closely with students.

With the specialized, advanced training provided by the 58-credit Master of Arts in Speech-Language Pathology you will be equipped for a career diagnosing and treating a wide range of speech, language, swallowing and hearing disorders. 

The Master of Arts (M.A.) program in speech-language pathology at LIU Post is designed to mentor and educate students to become competent, caring, qualified and accountable speech-language pathologists who in turn will be well equipped to serve clients in a culturally and linguistically diverse society. Our goal is to provide students with a comprehensive program, built upon a sound theoretical foundation in speech, language and hearing sciences, in which clinical skill development is integrated. Educational and clinical experiences will be guided by a strong adherence to evidence based practice.  Strong clinical reasoning, decision making, and communication skills will be developed through training and supervised practice.  Students will be required to demonstrate high standards of competency and ethical conduct within the scope of professional practice. An important element in our training of MA candidates includes inter-professional educational opportunities where students can learn from and work closely with other disciplines. Simulated experiences at our state of the art Simlab and with computerized simulators assists students to be prepared for clinical interaction and to practice their skills. We seek to guide our students through the program by providing advisement, instruction, as well as clinical and intellectual challenges. Our program goals are both formative and summative in accordance with standards of our professional accrediting organization, the Council of Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology. The 120-credit Bachelor of Science degree in Childhood Education/Early Childhood prepares you to become a knowledgeable, caring and inspiring teacher of childhood and early childhood education from infants and toddlers to children who are in the first through sixth grades.

In pursuing your undergraduate degree, you will examine theories of child development, motivation and learning for youngsters ranging from infants to Grade 6. You will master the skills needed to encourage students to learn new material and to take responsibility for themselves and one another.
