Health Sciences - Pre-Chiropractic

The combined Bachelor of Science/Doctor of Chiropractic (BS/DC) program between the University of Hartford and New York Chiropractic College (NYCC) provides a unique opportunity for students with career goals in chiropractic medicine. The accelerated program typically allows for the completion of the BS/DC degrees in a six-and-one-third-year period.

The BS/DC program is for the academically outstanding student with strong, realistic motivation toward the chiropractic profession. Initial study at the University of Hartford allows you to complete the general education and basic science requirements for the BS in health science degree and the prerequisites necessary for professional study. The BS degree is awarded by the University of Hartford following the successful completion of the first year of graduate study. Students who are not in the accelerated program typically complete the BS degree in four years at the University of Hartford.

The chiropractic program requires three and one-third years of combined academic and clinical training leading to the DC degree, which is a prerequisite for licensure eligibility in the United States. NYCC provides students with an accredited three-and-one-third-year professional chiropractic curriculum.

Civil Engineering

If you love to read and write, the Department of English and Modern Languages is where you will learn critical reading, organizational skills, and research techniques. Plus you’ll learn how to use your imagination in our writing-intensive classes! Our faculty are award-winning teachers and published authors who take an interest in your work and get to know you well in our small class sizes.

We offer two areas of emphasis to choose from:

The Creative Writing emphasis helps you learn good research, writing, editing and storytelling skills while producing your own stories, poems, plays, critical and personal essays.

In the Literature emphasis, you study literature in historical and cultural contexts and learn how the works of generations of writers explore unifying ideas, ideals, achievements, and aspirations.

If you are planning a career in research or plan to go on to graduate, medical, dental school then the Bachelor of Science in Biology program is recommended for you.
The curriculum includes a broad approach to biology and offers a comprehensive background in mathematics and the natural sciences.

The Marketing major includes core business classes, to give you a background in all areas of for-profit companies and nonprofits. Then, delve deeper into the marketing field with more specialized classes. You may also choose a concentration in International Marketing, Marketing Communications, Retailing, and Services Marketing to focus your career path. An internship ties it all together, giving you hands-on experience for your resume and skills to use in your first job.

The pre-professional track of the health sciences program prepares you for professional graduate study in fields such as medicine, dentistry, optometry, physician assistant, or pharmacy. You can pursue the degree on a full- or part-time basis, and you can enter the program as a freshman or a transfer student.The pre-professional track of the health sciences program prepares you for professional graduate study in fields such as medicine, dentistry, optometry, physician assistant, or pharmacy. The program combines a strong science foundation with a variety of electives that allow you to explore different health-related topics. If you’re interested in a career in health care but aren’t sure which area to pursue, the Health Sciences program may be a good fit for you. Health Sciences is also available as a minor.

Our health sciences program grounds you in the liberal arts with a firm foundation in the sciences, while providing a broad overview of the health care system. By majoring in health sciences, you can prepare for future study in a wide range of health care careers.

Although this is a non-clinical program, it will prepare you for graduate programs in fields such as medicine, dentistry, physician assistant, optometry, chiropractic, pharmacy, or podiatry.
