Students study a combination of English Language courses and credit-bearing academic courses. So they can earn credits towards their degree from the beginning.

Economics
Our economics program prepares you for a wide variety of careers in governmental and nonprofit organizations, business, law, public administration, and foreign services.

Our economics program is a good match if you want to pursue graduate work in economics, business, public administration, or the law. Our courses are designed to provide you with a strong understanding of the economic aspect of society.

Offering a Bachelor of Music and Master of Music, the Jackie McLean Institute of Jazz was founded by American jazz saxophonist Jackie McLean. As one of the nation’s premier jazz programs, Hartt strives to develop aspiring and skilled jazz musicians.

Through the curriculum, there is historical analysis, perspective, narratives on improvisation, and dialogue concerning the expression of jazz music.  Using these practices along with tutelage and cultivation, students will realize their choices to create an individual style.

Hartt students perform both on and off campus and have opportunities to perform and interact with internationally recognized jazz musicians in our Visiting Artist Series.

Instrumental Performance - Guitar
In 1968, Hartt graduated its first guitar major and over the years the program has expanded to offer a Master of Music, Graduate Professional Diploma, Doctor of Musical Arts, and Artist Diploma.

At Hartt, you will participate in masterclasses given by world renowned performers. Past guest artists include Oscar Ghiglia, Antigoni Goni, and Andrew York.

Our graduates presently hold or have held guitar positions at various prestigious institutions, including New England Conservatory, Boston Conservatory, The Longy School of Music, and Oberlin Conservatory.

Our alumni and present students have won or been finalists in the Alirio Diaz International Guitar Competition in Venezuela, Guitar Foundation of America International Guitar Competition, American String Teachers Competition, MTNA competition, and Appalachian State Guitar Competition.

Accounting
Accounting is a professional major that prepares you for entry-level positions in public accounting, management accounting, and financial management. Gain the basic knowledge of accounting theory and practice. Explore accounting’s interrelationship with other fields of business, including financial analysis, operations management, and information technology.

Judaic Studies
Judaic studies is an interdisciplinary program of study which focuses on the Jews and Judaism, including but not limited to, historical, linguistic, religious, sociological, political, and philosophical perspectives. Our program spans the periods from the beginnings of ancient Israel through the modern Jews and modern Israel. If you have no previous experience with Hebrew language, you are required to complete 42 credits including three required, core courses in Jewish history (9 credits) and two years of modern Hebrew (12 credits). The modern Hebrew requirement may be waived for students who demonstrate equivalent fluency.

The Hartt trumpet studio is a tight-knit community of artists who will inspire you, guide you, and share a musical journey with you.

Weekly lessons, master classes, brass repertoire class, special seminars and guest artists, are all part of the equation here at Hartt to make you become the player you want to become. You can accomplish so much, and at Hartt, you will keep getting better.

Our philosophy regarding percussion education is to be as all-inclusive as possible. As a Hartt student, you will typically study solo, chamber and orchestral repertoire, as well as improvisation, drum-set, and percussion instruments from other cultures (particularly from Africa, the Middle East, Cuba, Brazil, and Trinidad). We routinely hire guest teachers with focused areas of expertise in order to compliment our more traditional offerings. As a result, Hartt percussion alumni have been very successful in finding a variety of jobs throughout the country.

With an average enrollment of about 15 students, the Hartt percussion program fosters a healthy exchange of ideas and perspectives among the students and allows for personalized attention from the percussion faculty. The teaching/learning experience extends beyond the boundaries of applied lessons, as the Hartt percussion faculty employs an "open door" policy with the students--we are here to serve you.

The Hartt percussion program enjoys a rich tradition of excellence and diversity dating back more than fifty years, distinguishing The Hartt School as having one of the first percussion programs and percussion ensembles in the country. Founded and directed by Percussive Arts Society Hall of Fame member Alexander Lepak from 1947-91, the Hartt percussion program has been directed by Benjamin Toth since 1992.
