Health Sciences - Pre-Podiatry
The BS/DPM program is for the academically outstanding student with strong, realistic motivation toward the podiatric profession. Initial study at the University of Hartford allows you to complete the general education and basic science requirements for the BS in health science degree and the prerequisites necessary for professional study.

The BS degree is awarded by the University of Hartford following the successful completion of the first year of graduate study.  Students who are not in the accelerated program typically complete the BS degree in four years at the University of Hartford.

The podiatry program requires four years of combined academic and clinical training leading to the DPM degree, which is a prerequisite for licensure eligibility in the United States. The New York College of Podiatric Medicine provides students with an accredited four-year professional podiatry curriculum.

Guitar
In 1968, Hartt graduated its first guitar major and over the years the program has expanded to offer a Master of Music, Graduate Professional Diploma, Doctor of Musical Arts, and Artist Diploma.

At Hartt, you will participate in masterclasses given by world renowned performers. Past guest artists include Oscar Ghiglia, Antigoni Goni, and Andrew York.

Our graduates presently hold or have held guitar positions at various prestigious institutions, including New England Conservatory, Boston Conservatory, The Longy School of Music, and Oberlin Conservatory.

Our alumni and present students have won or been finalists in the Alirio Diaz International Guitar Competition in Venezuela, Guitar Foundation of America International Guitar Competition, American String Teachers Competition, MTNA competition, and Appalachian State Guitar Competition.

In addition to classical guitar training, you will also experience chamber music, guitar pedagogy, guitar literature, lute and baroque guitar tablature, and electric guitar styles. Our goal is to graduate students who are well-prepared to enter the fields of concert performance and college teaching. Towards that end we hold weekly performance classes that are required of all performance majors. In addition, every year, we sponsor six to eight public performances as part of our Evening with Guitar concert series.  This provides our students the opportunity to develop and refine their performance skills in a professional setting.

Computer Science
If you enjoy solving problems using computers, and you like to be creative and use your imagination, consider a degree in computer science. The Bachelor of Science in Computer Science program prepares you for a career in the computer profession, business, or education, while also allowing you to explore other areas of interest. It is recommended if you are planning to pursue graduate school.

English Secondary Education

The curriculum features a combination of English courses and education courses in a structured program that includes practice teaching.

In your English classes, work with award-winning published authors and poets who share your passion for teaching. In your education classes, acquire the qualities and expertise that make a great teacher such as:

• Critical reading skills
• Research techniques
• Organizational skills
• Creativity

The education curriculum gives you a theoretical base according to the state requirements, and a practical application of carefully considered educational principles. In addition, you receive a solid grounding in the essentials of the subject matter that you will go on to teach.

Flute
To enrich pedagogy skills, the Hartt flute studio uses a mentoring system that pairs an undergraduate student with a graduate flutist.  They meet together for a minimum of two hours a week to work in duets, resolve any problems revealed in Techniques Class, and for the chance to do research and get feedback from a partner. This gives the graduate students a chance to develop and refine their teaching techniques before leaving school, while the undergraduates benefit from the additional “one-on-one” help in between lessons and get to know fellow flute students more quickly.

Pairs rotate every 4 weeks so everyone has the opportunity to meet and work together, creating a true collaborative atmosphere in the flute studio. The students are collegial and supportive, each gaining more from these additional opportunities to participate with their peers than they would on their own.

Computer and Electronic Engineering Technology
Explore the technical side of engineering through the CEET program. Expand your skills through and design the program for your goals and interest through various coursework and five technical specialty electives. With this flexibility, you have the choice to advance programming skills or expand knowledge in areas like data acquisition and automated systems. You will also be trained to use industry-standard technology and software, to be well-prepared to start working full time after completing the program.

Aerospace Engineering
Students pursuing the aerospace engineering program will develop in-demand skills in the fundamental science and technologies to create, develop, and improve aircraft and spacecraft.

International Studies
At UHart, the world can be your classroom! Seventy-five percent of our international studies student study abroad for a semester, a year, or during our Winterterm or Summerterm.

You can concentrate in either global security or global development, and consider a double major in politics and government, economics, or modern languages and cultures.

If you are interested in a careers in government, business, education, the nonprofit sector, or certain areas of law, the international studies program gives you a solid foundation. It also is appropriate to prepare for graduate studies in a variety of fields.
