Economics
Our economics program prepares you for a wide variety of careers in governmental and nonprofit organizations, business, law, public administration, and foreign services.

Our economics program is a good match if you want to pursue graduate work in economics, business, public administration, or the law. Our courses are designed to provide you with a strong understanding of the economic aspect of society.

English
If you love to read and write, the Department of English and Modern Languages is where you will learn critical reading, organizational skills, and research techniques. Plus you’ll learn how to use your imagination in our writing-intensive classes! Our faculty are award-winning teachers and published authors who take an interest in your work and get to know you well in our small class sizes.

We offer two areas of emphasis to choose from:

The Creative Writing emphasis helps you learn good research, writing, editing and storytelling skills while producing your own stories, poems, plays, critical and personal essays.

In the Literature emphasis, you study literature in historical and cultural contexts and learn how the works of generations of writers explore unifying ideas, ideals, achievements, and aspirations.

Violin
You will join a tight-knit community of artists who are perfecting their craft. Through personal attention and mentorship from Hartt’s accomplished faculty members, you will develop innovative ideas and career ready skills. Learn about studying violin at Hartt, including undergraduate and graduate admission and audition requirements and faculty information.

French Horn
Through weekly privates lessons, and weekly studio classes, you will focus on small ensemble and solo playing. At Hartt, you will receive comprehensive musical training while developing innovative ideas and career ready skills while gaining exposure to nationally and internationally recognized musicians (recent guest artists include Gene Pokorney of CSO, Julie Landsman of The Met, Ray Mase of ABQ.)

Engineering Technology (Contract Major)

The Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science gives you the flexibility to tailor your curriculum to satisfy your individual talents and goals. The program combines a set of required core courses with a wide variety of elective courses in the various areas of computer science.

Computer Science
If you enjoy solving problems using computers, and you like to be creative and use your imagination, consider a degree in computer science. The Bachelor of Science in Computer Science program prepares you for a career in the computer profession, business, or education, while also allowing you to explore other areas of interest. The Bachelor of Science in Computer Science gives you a solid foundation in both theoretical and applied computer science.  Your first year, get a solid foundation of mathematics and the fundamentals of computing. Then you build upon that knowledge with more in-depth courses.

Jazz Studies
Offering a Bachelor of Music and Master of Music, the Jackie McLean Institute of Jazz was founded by American jazz saxophonist Jackie McLean. As one of the nation’s premier jazz programs, Hartt strives to develop aspiring and skilled jazz musicians.

Through the curriculum, there is historical analysis, perspective, narratives on improvisation, and dialogue concerning the expression of jazz music.  Using these practices along with tutelage and cultivation, students will realize their choices to create an individual style.

Marketing
The Marketing major includes core business classes, to give you a background in all areas of for-profit companies and nonprofits. Then, delve deeper into the marketing field with more specialized classes. You may also choose a concentration in International Marketing, Marketing Communications, Retailing, and Services Marketing to focus your career path. An internship ties it all together, giving you hands-on experience for your resume and skills to use in your first job.

Sociology

Our sociology program is designed to increase your understanding of factors that determine social relationships and social organization. You take courses that cover current social issues like race relations, inequality, health care, gender, and modern family life. We encourage you to participate in an individually designed internships so you can combine your academics with your future career interests.
