Actor Training
The actor training major challenges you to expand both your craft and your creative imagination so that you can be successful in a broad range of theatrical styles from the contemporary to the classical. A carefully planned progression of acting, voice and speech, and movement classes stimulates your talent and builds the capacity to be bold and innovative. Fourth-year actor training students audition for roles in the Hartford Stage Company’s season, including its annual production of A Christmas Carol.

Cinema
You have the opportunity to study film as a literary art form and learn production skills to create your own movie.   Here you can take advantage of opportunities to study film during a semester abroad or get additional experience through an internship at a production company in Connecticut, New York, or Boston.

Our alumni have gone to work at television networks and film production companies as directors, producers, and as directors of international film festivals.

Robotics Engineering
This program will prepare you to fulfill the growing and expected demands for entry-level careers in robotics. Dive into a hands-on experience around robotics principals, designs, and operation. Students in this program will especially benefit from the laboratories in CETA, including two new robotics labs.

Robotics is the discipline that combines computer, electrical, mechanical, sensing, and computer science in real time. It plays a role in nearly every aspect of our lives, and we can see its applications in automation, manufacturing, the defense industry, commerce—like Amazon—and the healthcare industry to mention a few.

The Master of Science (MS) in civil engineering program emphasizes research-oriented courses for you to gain new skills and knowledge to meet today's industry demands and advance your career.

The Master of Science (MS) in civil engineering program is a research-oriented program that focuses on the advancement of the fundamental body of knowledge in civil engineering while also fostering the development of skills in design and analysis. This program lets you study an area of interest as part of a graduate thesis. Work towards solving a contemporary problem and become a technical expert. This program is also ideal for those who endeavor to eventually pursue their doctoral degree in an area within engineering. You will be ready to conduct research more analytically and purposefully in the industry and in academia.

Electromechanical Engineering Technology
Explore the technical side of engineering through the CEET program. Expand your skills through and design the program for your goals and interest through various coursework and five technical specialty electives. With this flexibility, you have the choice to advance programming skills or expand knowledge in areas like data acquisition and automated systems. You will also be trained to use industry-standard technology and software, to be well-prepared to start working full time after completing the program.

The electromechanical engineering technology (EMET) program was created in response to an industrial need to hire engineering technology graduates with abilities across electrical and mechanical disciplines. Students that complete this program are prepared for careers in fields such as control systems, automation, manufacturing and Industry 4.0. As of January 2021, the program is one of 12 Bachelor of Science in Electromechanical Engineering Technology programs in the United States that has ABET accreditation. Additionally, as of January 2021, the program is one of 11 programs recognized by the Automation Federation in their Automation Industry Competency Model.

The curriculum features a combination of English courses and education courses in a structured program that includes practice teaching.

In your English classes, work with award-winning published authors and poets who share your passion for teaching. In your education classes, acquire the qualities and expertise that make a great teacher such as:

The education curriculum gives you a theoretical base according to the state requirements, and a practical application of carefully considered educational principles. In addition, you receive a solid grounding in the essentials of the subject matter that you will go on to teach.

The Bachelor of Science in Computer Science gives you a solid foundation in both theoretical and applied computer science.  Your first year, get a solid foundation of mathematics and the fundamentals of computing. Then you build upon that knowledge with more in-depth courses.

Health Sciences - Pre-Optometry

The BS/OD program is for the academically outstanding student with strong, realistic motivation toward the optometric profession. Initial study at the University of Hartford allows you to complete the general education and basic science requirements for the BS in health science degree and the prerequisites necessary for professional study.

The BS degree is awarded by the University of Hartford following the successful completion of the first year of graduate study. Students who are not in the accelerated program typically complete the BS degree in four years at the University of Hartford.

The optometry program requires four years of combined academic and clinical training leading to the OD degree, which is a prerequisite for licensure eligibility in the United States. The New England College of Optometry provides students with an accredited four-year professional optometry curriculum.

Sculpture
Students in the sculpture sculpture explore a wide range of approaches to sculpture production. Our program recognizes the broad diversity of styles, techniques, and independent conceptual visions that define the field of contemporary sculpture.

Music Theatre
Hartt’s music theatre major integrates comprehensive actor training with rigorous instruction in singing and dance. Weekly individual voice lessons, along with classes in ear training and music theory, provide you with a strong musical foundation. Multiple levels of ballet, jazz, and tap help you develop the dance skills required for professional success.
