Forensic Psychology students at the Chicago Campus have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience at The Chicago School’s Forensic Center, which provides high-quality forensic psychological services and programming to improve the health and well-being of individuals within diverse communities. Guided by practitioner faculty, students utilize unique, real-world opportunities to conduct mental health interventions, advocacy, and/or research. Additionally, students will gain hands-on experience with forensic clients and agencies, furthering their knowledge, skills, and abilities to address the multi-faceted aspects of forensic mental health practice at the Master’s level.

Work Permit USA

Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.

It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.

A student can participate in three types of Optional Practical Training (OPT):

  1. Pre-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment provided to F-1 students before completion of their course of study.
  2. Post-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment available to F-1 students after completing their course of study.
  3. 24 Month STEM Extension: Students enrolled in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) courses can a 24-month extension after their initial Post-Completion OPT authorization.

Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling

A Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC) program from The Chicago School’s downtown Chicago Campus prepares students to provide high-quality mental health services to a diverse clientele in a variety of community settings.

Our clinical mental health counseling master’s program is a 60 credit hour, on-ground counselor education training program that provides future mental health counselors with needed clinical competencies, including ethics, research, evaluation, diagnosis, theories, career assessment, and counseling interventions.

This M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling program in Chicago combines rigorous coursework with supervised clinical training that provides opportunities to put theory into practice in real-world settings. Graduates will be prepared to provide counseling services to individuals, families, couples, and groups, and in addition to having the skills to help their clients work through a wide variety of issues including:

Students pursuing a Master’s Degree in Forensic Psychology, Generalist Concentration will be broadly and generally trained to identify and address various issues commonly found in forensic counseling settings. This concentration allows Forensic Psychology students to choose between different groups of electives to tailor their educational experience to their unique interests and needs.  Course options include adult or juvenile offenders; correctional, law enforcement, or terrorism; and mediation and dispute resolution, sex offenders, or hostage negotiation.

Guided by practitioner faculty, Health Psychology students learn interventions and psycho-educative techniques aimed at helping people prevent illnesses, recover quickly, or live with chronic conditions in a way that maximizes their functional capacities.

Our Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) master’s program in Chicago provides students with a solid foundation in the principles of behavioral psychology, equipping them with the skills to bring about socially significant behavior change through data-based decision-making, and program development. Using modern technologies, students in the Chicago ABA program will be challenged to become leaders in the field of applied behavior analysis.

The Master of Science (MS) in Applied Behavior Analysis program has as its mission to provide students with the scientific, analytical, and conceptual tools they need to provide effective, ethical, and practical behavior-analytic interventions to the diverse populations that they serve.

Preparing students to for careers as professional counselors, the Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology, Marital and Family Therapy concentration builds diagnostic, therapeutic, and consultative skills in order to work with family and couples.

Guided by practitioner faculty with years in the field, students at our Chicago Campus will learn about the dynamic conflicts that families face regarding domestic violence, divorce, and sexual relations—addressing the needs of populations ranging from children to the elderly, and with a variety of emotional, intellectual, and psychological conditions and problems.

Having established a broad knowledge of theory and applied it through their fieldwork, graduates of this program will have the training to work in a variety of clinical settings, and with required licensure, independent practice.
