In TROY’s general music program, you will take classes taught by skilled and knowledgeable faculty members who have a passion for music and guiding you toward success. Within your courses, you will learn about music traditions from around the globe and how those traditions are entwined with the human experience. While some courses will help you trace the development of Western music from ancient worlds all the way to the contemporary periods, others will teach you the fundamentals of music, including rhythm and meter, note names, intervals, scales and more.

As a general music major, you’ll have access to incredible opportunities that allow you to participate in hands-on courses that will give you the skills for keyboard musicianship and sight reading, sight singing, improvisation techniques, harmonization and chorale playing. You will also participate in classes focusing on the applications of the microcomputer, music teaching, and the management, planning and record-keeping tasks of the music educator.

If a career in physical therapy, occupational therapy, clinical exercise testing and prescription, cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, health-fitness/wellness, strength and conditioning or nutrition is in your future, a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science is a perfect fit. This competitive program includes concentrations in pre-health professions, health and wellness and nutrition, and incorporates coursework from five academic departments spread across two colleges.

With an emphasis on preparation for entry into graduate health profession schools in the fields of physical therapy, occupational therapy and physician assistant, you will be prepared to successfully enter into graduate health profession schools nationwide. Upon completion of the program, you will also be prepared to sit for certification examinations offered through the American College of Sports Medicine, National Strength and Conditioning Association and other organizations in the related fields of health and fitness, clinical exercise testing and strength and conditioning. A bachelor’s degree in Marine Biology provides the academic and field experience to prepare students for such rewarding careers in marine science as conducting research at universities and marine laboratories and working for industry or state and federal environmental agencies. The program of study includes two summers at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab taking courses such as Vertebrate Zoology, Oceanography, Marine Ecology and Marine Botany, among other choices. During the freshman and sophomore years, students complete their foundation courses, which prepare them for advanced study. Students complete their upper-level biology and physics classes during their junior and senior years at the Troy Campus.
