The interdisciplinary studies program lets you build your degree program based on your individual career goals and skill set. Within this program, you’ll complete your general studies courses and select three academic minors that will hone your skills across a broad spectrum of topics and specializations. A Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) in Global Business with a concentration in general business provides a broad overview of business within the context of a global business culture. It offers you an opportunity to obtain proficiency in management concepts, skills and techniques, particularly as applied to strategic business efforts.

What is General Business?
This general business concentration focuses on developing the skills needed to operate a business. Success involves developing a foundational understanding of how to manage an organization’s day-to-day operations. General business gives you the flexibility to pursue a broad base of courses to develop in-depth knowledge of a complementary field of interest and to tailor your program to fit your individual needs.

What Can You Do With a General Business Degree?
This general business BSBA prepares you for roles with varied managerial responsibilities in business, government, the military and nonprofit organizations, both in the U.S. and internationally. Opportunities lie primarily in general management, office systems, operations, production management, quality control, customer service, retail management and sales. This degree also prepares you for admission to graduate programs in business and law.

Economic issues are everywhere. The study of economics explores the choices individuals make when faced with scarcity. The study of economics can be applied to any facet of life. Why are some countries rich and others poor? Why is Social Security short on funding? Why do men and women earn different incomes? Economics addresses these questions.

Many great internship opportunities exist within the field of economics. The Division of Economics and Finance works with several organizations such as the American Institute for Economic Research, the American Enterprise Institute, the Cato Institute, the Institute for Humane Studies, the Institute for Justice and the Tax Foundation to offer great internship opportunities to students pursuing degrees in economics.

The Division of Economics and Finance is also home to the Manuel H. Johnson Center for Political Economy. The Johnson Center provides a dynamic and rigorous education program focused on the imperatives of free markets and individual liberty as well as relevant policy research on current and local issues. Students interested in the free enterprise system will enjoy the programs offered by the Johnson Center.

Students with a background in economics will find employment opportunities in both the private and public sectors. Entry level positions in the private sector include marketing research, management consulting, banking, investing and insurance. Government positions include economic forecasting, public policy/legislation analysis and economic impact studies.

Students may also choose to pursue a graduate education. An undergraduate degree in economics is an excellent foundation for graduate study in economics, business, law or public policy.

TROY requires all students seeking a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish degree to complete a study abroad program either on their own or through guided trips with faculty members.

To ensure the success of the instruction in the classroom, students are tested prior to graduation using the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages exam for oral and aural proficiency. The TROY Spanish Club is very active on campus and plays host to many cultural and language activities for students.

TROY students also work with native speakers from Puerto Rico, Mexico, Spain, Costa Rica, Venezuela and other Spanish speaking countries inside the classroom. The TROY Spanish program not only prepares students to speak and write Spanish at an intermediate level or higher, it focuses on the cultural similarities and differences between Spanish speaking countries and the United States.

The purpose of Troy University's English major is to prepare undergraduate students to enter today's professions, public services, or graduate programs with literacy in English and American language. They also gain a knowledge of the world's literary culture adequate for success in today's global culture. They develop skills in formulating answers to questions through open-minded research. The Master of Science Graduate Program in Environmental and Biological Sciences is designed to broaden the student's perspective and provide skills and knowledge for understanding and solving problems in the environmental and biological sciences. The program teaches students the direct and indirect economic, social, and political contributions of the environmental and biological sciences. The program underscores the interdisciplinary and cooperative nature of environmental and biological issues. This program teaches students how to manage conflicts and emphasizes the importance of effectively communicating with the private and public sectors, regulatory agencies, interest groups, and communities. The Program objectives are listed below:

• To demonstrate the pivotal role of the environmental and biological sciences in understanding and addressing environmental, ecological, medical, agricultural and policy-related issues.
