Overview
The study of communication is fundamental to understanding how messages are interpreted through cultural, political, economic, social and psychological dimensions. That’s why variety and flexibility are found at the core of TROY’s Communication Arts degree with an emphasis in Communication Studies.
TROY’s communication studies track develops both humanistic and social scientific skills to explore how people create and share meaning. As a communication studies major, you will hone writing, research, presentation and analytical skills that are critical to your future success. You’ll also learn how to develop effective, ethical messages using traditional and emerging media and techniques. All of this is done while enhancing your own self-awareness as you learn about your individual communication strengths and weaknesses and how to improve your skills.
This program boasts a curriculum that balances academic research with creative expression and community service. As a student within TROY’s Hall School of Journalism and Communication, you’ll learn about emerging media presentation technologies. After studying conflict management, you’ll have the opportunity to apply what you’ve learned through projects that serve the community.

Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.
It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.

The Bachelor of Fine Arts degree is the standard, comprehensive and professional degree for those who wish to enter the market as studio professionals or enter into a graduate studio program.
Students are given four options to emphasize in this highly rigorous program of study: 2D, 3D, Photography and Digital Studio. By clicking on the specific track, you can see a document more clearly outlining these programs of study. The BFA program requires admission through an interview and portfolio review process as the expectations for this academic and career path is considered highly exceptional in studio practice.
Studio art encompasses visual art such as photographs, paintings, prints, drawings, sculptures and ceramics. Earning a studio arts degree from Troy University gives you access to an innovative curriculum, skilled and knowledgeable faculty and a focus of your choosing. Concentrations are offered in 2D, 3D, photography and/or digital studio.
Within the bachelor of studio arts program at TROY, you will be introduced to desktop graphic applications, emerging technological advancements in art and design and principles of two-, three- and four-dimensional space and drawing. You will also examine the development of art from pre-history to the Gothic period focusing on the various social and cultural factors that determine the uses and appearance of art at different times.

European history
From the fall of the Roman Empire to today’s contemporary European culture, TROY’s European history courses will take you on a journey exploring some of the greatest victories and losses felt “across the pond.” These classes will equip you with a deeper understanding of topics such as the Crusades, medieval Europe, the Age of Enlightenment and the French Revolution and provide you with inspiration for your own future classroom.
Asian history
Study the ins and outs of Middle Eastern culture including information about Islam, the Ottoman Empire and the Western influence that has helped shape the Middle East since World War II. You’ll have the opportunity to study the development and interaction of Chinese, Japanese and Korean civilizations, as well as the impact of Western cultures, twentieth-century conflicts, resolutions and accommodations.
African history

A bachelor’s degree in Marine Biology provides the academic and field experience to prepare students for such rewarding careers in marine science as conducting research at universities and marine laboratories and working for industry or state and federal environmental agencies.
